What the heck is libertarianism? Stossel didn't know when he started reporting. He was one more liberal calling for more government regulations. He won 19 Emmys when criticizing business.

Sometimes politicians passed laws because of his reporting. One state created a Department of Consumer Affairs after his exposes. He was slow to realize that government regulation makes everything cost more, adds red tape and legal work but doesn't stop scams. Stossel's embarrassed at how long it took him to wake up and understand that life is best when government backs off.

But today more people have woken up.

More people attend the International Students for Liberty Conference every year... it's a gathering of mostly college students... that are very clear about not calling themselves democrats or republicans.

And now, some celebrities like, Vince Vaughan, Drew Carey, Kurt Russell, Tom Selleck have come out of the libertarian closet. Penn Jillette takes a clear stance on libertarian issues: like the war on drugs, laws against prostitution and big government. That's rare in the entertainment business.

Former Presidential candidate Ron Paul joins Stossel to discuss why more people now embrace freedom.

But not everyone is happy about America's libertarian "moment". There's also a stereotype that paints libertarians as obsessed with marijuana and drug legalization.

Stossel wishes Republicans would listen to that rising generation who want government to stay not just out of the economy, but out of our personal lives, too.

Exclusive Web-Only Preview of John Stossel's "The Rise of The Libertarians" with Matt Welch and Nick Gillespie!

Tomorrow's weekly episode of John Stossel's eponymous Fox Business show is all about "The Rise of the Libertarians."

Matt Welch and I appear on the program to discuss the themes we outlined in our book The Declaration of Independents and to talk about all the recent developments that argue for what we've called "the Libertarian Moment" and even "the Libertarian Era."

Other guests include Penn Jillette, members of Students for Liberty, and former Rep. Ron Paul. Follow the show on Twitter at the hashtag #TheRise.

Stossel airs on Thursday at 9pm ET. Go here for more information on the show.

Click above to watch a web-only exclusive preview of the episode, in which Matt and I discuss whether a libertarian world would be like Somalia, why libertarians are constantly forced to answer such questions, and more.

Stossel's syndicated column appears every Wednesday at Reason.com. Read the latest here and check out his archive here.

I got a lot of people I know who know I'm a Libertarian watching this. Stossel better deliver.

still no tubes available for the entire show, but if no one posts it will at least be available on Hulu sometime a few weeks from now. also the show will re-air Sunday on Fox News (instead of Fox Business) at 10 pm ET.

There was some very shoddy media reports regarding the attendance of the various Ron Paul rallies in 2012, and Dr. Paul appears to be quoting from them. The Berkeley crowd was much, much smaller than UCLA, for example.
