June 28th is Fundraiser Friday for NJ's Steve Lonegan, who will be running for the Senate against Newark's celebrity-mayor Cory Booker. Lonegan will be at the Grand Cafe on Washington St. in Morristown, and will video conference with satellite events throughout NJ, and in Brooklyn NY and Washington DC.

In 2009, Ron Paul endorsed Lonegan during his run in NJ's gubernatorial primary against Chris Christie, saying he was impressed with Lonegan's budget restraint during his 12 years as Mayor of Bogota, NJ.

I like Eck better myself. Check out her thoughts on DOMA compared to Lonegan. I think Ron Paul only endorsed him because he was the Christie alternative. Eck is better.

In a general you never know. He'll make it interesting more so than say Gomez in MA

I wouldn't write it off just yet. It's special election 3 weeks before the regular election day. Turnout is expected to be VERY low. And Lonegan has spent years building up a huge grassroots and contact network; I'd expect his gotv apparatus to be better than expected. Combine those factors and you very well could get an upset.

He's going to run against Obama and national Democrats and let the chips fall where they may. Lets hope he gives them a scare. He's the perfect candidate to do this

I agree that he is really good. I don't think the race will be close, though. Booker is very popular in NJ. IMO, putting money in this race is likely a waste for people not in NJ. This race is only important to follow if there is a major scandal involving the Democratic Party nominee, IMO. There were very good candidates for Senate last time in RI and MN. Here are the results.

the popularity of Booker is media hype. Lets see a conservative go at him and national Dems in the suburbs in a low turnout election. This guy will run the right race and you never know.

The two races you just pasted were incumbents. This is an open seat remember. Huge difference.

Dr. Alieta Eck - good woman

I was mostly unaware of Dr. Alieta Eck, but actually like what I've seen about her. That said, I think Lonegan is in a better position for this right now. I will remember her name in the future though.

(Not to derail my own thread, but...) For others that don't know who she is, she started a sucessfully run, non-governmental health care clinic 10 years ago. It's funded by donations, with doctors and nurses who willingly volunteer their time to see patients. She has a lot to say about the need to repeal obamacare and how free market solutions could lower costs and protect our choices. I envision a place for her in Rand's cabinet. Once Lonegan starts comparing Booker's performance as mayor of Newark with his own performance when he was mayor of Bogota, suburban voters are going to ask themselves just what a Senator Booker would offer them.

Lonegan actually accomplished things as a mayor, whereas all Booker accomplished as Mayor of Newark was getting himself lots of television appearances...That, and I believe, he's the first mayor of Newark, NJ in 50 years, that served out his term without ending up in jail!
