I know the primaries/caucuses are coming to a close, but almost every state has a convention between now and August, where the hardcore delegate action happens.

Do we have a centralized resource for the state conventions?

Are we trying to plant delegates for open spots in these state conventions?

A lot can happen at a state convention I believe.

We need to get educated on state conventions!

No matter what, there will be a vote at the convention if there is more than one candidate in the race.
A "brokered convention" means that no one get 50% on that first vote.

Just so you know, in some states where mccain "won" - the delegates are not bound and can vote for whomever they want in the first round!
In almost all states they can vote for whomever they want in the second round!

This is why we have to get the delegates starting at the county/district level. To become a delegate it is often as simple as submitting an application or just paying for a seat.

i will post more here as i learn.

right now i do believe we have a chance to steal this election by following these very complicated local rules.

not sure if we can assume HQ will take action in every state, we have to take maximum responsibility. Pick a state, see how the convention works, what happens there, what are the rules. This is surely under discussed.

well i am not banking on HQ doing that of course. I just want to make sure everyone is informed in every state that has something like this set up. We saw what happened in michigan.

I am getting into the research, and it seems these state conventions actually chose the delegates to go to the national convention. And many states are litereally up for grabs again. I'm not trying to be over hopeful here, but it seems like there needs to be alot of research. every state does their convention differently with diferent rules.

exactly. And dont we have a lot of delegates in a lot of states. Not to mention the now unbinded delegates from those who have dropped out? I mean it is freakin PERFECT timing for us. The problem is alot of people will say whats the point we already lost. But what they dont understand is we havnt lost as long as they show up and get National delegates to back ron paul hahah.

Delegates should be constintly updated on there state/county elections. Not just the night before or the day of.

see that is what i am talkin about. It could really be this easy to take the nomination from under Mccains feet (as long as he doesnt break the magic number that is hahah). Tho that isnt even decided until the state delegates are selected.

Remember, a lot of the old school gop is old and lazy. we have to contact our state gop and find out how to become delegates at the STATE or COUNTY convention.

Please remember, most of the primaries are nothing but preference contests, nothing real.

Should the Mods create a main link/fourm under RonPaulForums called "State Delegate Process" (or y'all can think of a better link/forum name?) and have each state that caucus as a link/forum under that main link/forum to organize and continue discussion on this with a sticky in this forum as well as the main campaign forum to direct people to these new forums?

Secondly, shouldn't each state forum that's created have a sticky that talks about and shows the process on how to win state delegates that go to the national convention?

IMO, it sucks being curious as to what Dr. Pauls status is, as far as winning possible state delegates, in each caucus state, and trying to mine that data from the different forums or other internet sites! And yes, I understand that one doesn't ultimately know until the state convention occurs and delegates are assigned. BUT it would be nice to have a central place to go to have the ability to understand how each caucus state delegate process happens, where in that process the state is, and how Dr. Paul delegates in that state can organize at each step with the best possible chance to gain a state delegate spot.

So from that, would this be a good tool to have?

yes i hope the mods make a section for the conventions like they did for the primaries. this is what really matters!!!! all we have to do is schmooze our way into state delegate positions.

the nice thing is most people forget about this, and most will just assume that mccaine will get teh nom by default and not even bother to show up.

If ALL ron paul delegates (plus those we convince from other people who dropped) go to these little conventions, we would have a HUGE advantage and sweep state delegates.

By putting the maximum number of delegates on the convention floor, we can get our people in the rules committee and the platform committee as well as having a voice in the decision-making that can only be done by delegates. The power of having as many Ron Paul Republicans on the floor as possible — in order to talk to other delegates, make our case, debate, and convince them that our message is a true conservative message — cannot be overstated. Delegates represent the most influential and active members of the party.

I realize that there are some states (don't know which ones offhand) where the delegates are bound forever. The above quote makes it clear that you should STILL try to be a delegate in these states, even if you cannot actually vote for Ron Paul as the Republican nominee. Another goal of ours is to bring the party platform back to its conservative principles. Let us get as many of our delegates into the convention in St. Paul as possible.
