I wish a system like that was set up.The Conservative Party in this Country was out of power after a brand muddying exercise to refer to them as 'Tories' in the news.It is an old derogatory term for them but the media is supposed to use official names not slang terms. It appeared on local radio in early 1996 and eventually to TV.The BBC editing suites were obviously heavily populated by lefties.I think an effective monitoring system would make these kind of ploys very transparent at an early stage. How 'trainable' and reliable is speech recognition software now and what sort of cost are we talking about for nationwide monitoring?

They would have to be trained for each person's voice to be anywhere near accurate. Even then, 85 - 90%. That sounds good, but it's really not great.

What could be done though, is capture the stream from the cable, and separate the closed-captioning part of the stream. If it's not live, they usually output the same as the teleprompter.
