I remember Obama saying something like they'd have to make a deal by Jul 20 anyway just so legislation will reach his desk in time. Boehner is downplaying the deadline and calling it artificial.

So apparently they're just raiding pensions now to stay afloat and they're gonna put that money back later when they raise the debt ceiling? This is some high stakes gambling if I ever seen it! :o

Trust me. There will be a deal. It's just not big enough to stick up our collective asses, yet. There is still room for waste and they don't want to have all that extra space left over for us to breathe.

yesterday at a press conference, obama said flat out that there is no way the debt ceiling won't get raised. said the ceiling was raised 17 times while reagan was in office so it's ridiculous for republicans to not raise it now

just flat out saying he doesn't give a shit what the people want.

Obama has said that he's going to "Induce Fear" in more Propaganda speeches to the mundanes, then invoke the 14th Amendment and raise the debt ceiling. The aftermath will be tons of lawyers caught up in litigation over such actions.

Obama will be viewed as the savior of the serf/mundanes/zombies.

Everything is contrived and planned before it's brought to the public.

Yeah he said it was a technicality of raising it, can you believe that BS? A technicality?!

Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.

i agree with hw on this , if the tea party people were strong supporters of the contitution they would have no problem with this , if they have a problem with this , they must be all hot air.

What are you trying to say ??

every tea party/repub i have heard is against raising the debt ceiling , i am no big fan of it , i am a big fan of the COTUS , to me it says it all.

we pay our bills .

Paying our bills and running a $1.5 trillion deficit, per year, are different things.

This is NOT default, and I am sick of the talking heads, and Obama calling it that. This is simply NO more credit, and not more adding debt we can't possibly ever pay. This is the best answer for us to finally FORCE the Government to work within a budget. Yes, it means cuts and making some hard choices... that's what they were sent to D.C. to do!!

i did not say that running up deficits was good , i am just stating facts about the constitution , we cannot pick and choose . we either beleive in all of it or none of it .

But the 14th Amendment was never legally ratified.

"This Amendment has been part of the United States Constitution since its ratification in 1868. And since then, Confederate sympathizers and other right-wing groups have refused to accept the Amendment's legitimacy.

Calling the Fourteenth Amendment the most "nefarious consequence of the Reconstruction," the neo-Confederate League of the South attacks the validity of the Amendment on the ground that its ratification was fraudulent.

The League claims that the Southern states were coerced into accepting the Amendment, and that without this coercion, there would not have been enough states to ratify the Amendment. Therefore, the argument goes, the passage of the Amendment was illegitimate."

i think it was ratified .

"The Constitution explicitly places the borrowing authority with Congress, not the President," Treasury Department General Counsel George W. Madison wrote.

"Like every previous Secretary of the Treasury who has confronted the question, Secretary Geithner has always viewed the debt limit as a binding legal constraint that can only be raised by Congress."

Contract signed under duress, or one not by authorized representatives, etc is...

Not raising the debt ceiling does not mean we cannot pay our "bills".

$200B/month in revenue...$20-30B/month in bond payments (interest on our debt). Oh goodness, default is immanent...also on Social Security which costs $50B/month.

Demagoguing FTL.

Whats so stinkin hard about cutting spending? Why is the solution to our problem to increase the amount of DEBT???

We only make $5,000 a year. We are spending $20,000. We have a debt of $200,000,000. The answer to this is more debt?? Bring our troops home, close overseas bases. Stop paying Bachmann 150 Gs a year to pray for gay people. Freaking a
