I read an article recently about a duo called The Civil Wars. I hadn't realized that I downloaded one of their songs last year as part of the iTunes free downloads. Anyway, they're a male-female alternative folk duo. Their music and vocals are haunting and their lyrics are like poetry.

Their recent CD has fans buzzing because in midstream of a tour last year, they abuptly broke up! People are speculating whether it was because of any romantic entanglements because they have such great chemistry together -(they are both married to other people) or if it was just creative differences. But the songs on the album are said to be about what happened to the band. Anyway, they are fairly new (I think they came out 2011). I rarely get excited about music these days because not much of it is good, but these people are true artists and I thought I'd share. Although it sucks that such gifted people broke up when music lovers are just starting to discover them.

Here are two of their videos. The first is old. The second is their latest single.

Glad they got back together. They do have potential to be a great band.I was intrigued by them after i heard this song

but then i read they split up so i never checked back to there youtube channel

As far as my most favorite new band is walk off the earth. They mainly are a cover band but there twist they put on songs makes me like them better than the original. There so talented i think there going to be around for awhile

If you listen to the streaming audio at liveireland.com, you'll discover all sorts of marvelous things. :) I'm especially a Dervish fan, but I like Celtic Woman and most stuff they play on the trad channel. You young kids might like the contemporary channel better.

Definitely the best band to come out the last couple years. In my humble opinion:

90's top protest band was Rage Against The Machine
00's top protest band was System of a Down
10's top protest band is going to be Rebel Inc.

Thanks for sharing. These guys put a smile on my face! The songs are weird in a sweet way. Like The Mouldy Peaches, their songs could have been on the Juno soundtrack.

I know. It sucks that they broke up right at the cusp when they were about to take off. It's like the planets only align evey twenty years or so to produce such great artistry like this. I hope they realize how rare that is and that they work things out.

They also did a song for the Hunger Games soundtrack with Taylor Swift.

I like it.

I added The Civil Wars albums to a Spotify playlist, so far I like the songs posted here. Good stuff.

Here are some tracks, mostly covers, from a talented young lady named Moriah Poppy.

One of my favorites is the cover of Miike Snow - Animal https://soundcloud.com/moriah-poppy/animal-miike-snow-cover

Cool! You should also check out their live album, VH1 Unplugged. They do an AMAZING version of Michael Jackson's, Billie Jean that I posted above.

Wow, love the covers by Moriah Poppy! Mad Word in particular. It gave me the chills! What exactly is Spotify? Do they include artists that iTunes wouldn't normally feature? Do they charge for downloading? Thanks for posting.
