The idea is simple (and not new); we could make a large attempt to write letters to the editors of our local newspapers that explain why people should register Republican and vote for Ron Paul. The letters should be similar to the one about "Blue Republicans" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robin-koerner/blue-republican_b_886650.html

It would make sense to some independents and anti-war liberals and can increase RP's votes in the primary. Personally, I cannot see any reason why we should not give it a shot. I will be doing this for my local paper, and I hope others can find the time to do the same.

It is not that hard. 1) Just mimick some of the ideas (be sure to mention how they can get the best candidate for them on the Repub side in case Obama loses and they can always switch back to vote for Obama in the General Election) from the article above and add in some of your own supporting details (or write it on your own just be sure to drive the points home well and get him more votes from independents and liberals). 2) Be sure everything included in your letter is factual 3) Remember to check the requirements of your local paper for publication 4) Send it to the editor of your local paper and kindly ask they publish it.

I agree. I have seen a number of published 'letters to the editor' on the web for Ron Paul and they are great to see.

I just have to mention that there is currently a thread right above this that mentions how "chasing dems and liberals=fail" and should not even be attempted. As others noted in that thread, the election is different this time around. There is no Democrat primary election, and many anti-war leftists and independents are very upset with Obama. Can anyone tell me how this effort can harm the campaign? It takes very little time and can potentially gain a lot of primary votes when we point out to people how they can shape the choices they have for this election. I'm not entirely certain, but just by crunching numbers in my head and comparing it with polling data we could win some states by getting 5% of the Dems to switch to Repub just for voting in the primary.

I've done this. Unfortunately my local newspaper is now charging for Letter to Editor which endorse political candidates.

Does anyone have any templates to use? We should have a collection of templates depending on the demographic, ie: one for liberal papers, one for socons, one for Christians, one for minority papers etc.

Try writing an OpEd and plug Ron Paul.. for local or national issues that have been recently printed.. like the debt ceiling...

The OpEd section is the #3 read section in the newspaper, after sports and comics.
