I know you guys are probably rolling on the floor laughing atm, but I've always been afraid to shoot a gun, terrified of guns.

Do you think there is any merit in getting a stun gun, and if so, what brand should I get?

There's only one way to cure your fear! Do you know anyone who owns a gun who would be willing to teach you?

I don't know much about stun guns so I can't help you there.

I remember I used to be really afraid of roller coasters because of what I anticipated would happen on the ride, but once I finally went on I saw what it was really like and I have loved them ever since.

Don't know anyone close by that can help me. My fear goes back to when I was President of the Humane Society in Charlotte, North Carolina. I grew such a hatred against animal abusers, that I always said if I had a gun, I would blow that &*&*&* away. I have no doubt I would have if I could have... that is why I've always been afraid to own a gun or fire one.

Can't you go to a gun range that offers classes before deciding against them. Stun guns are relatively easy to defeat, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to defend yourself. I doubt cops would use them if they didn't have a gun. I'd probably kill the f#cker who used one one me who was without a gun.

I was scared too, until I shot a barreta at a range with my Marine corp Captain Brother.

A gun is a tool, just like a chainsaw, bulldozer, hammer, screwdriver, etc. If used properly, there's no need to fear it. I would suggest taking a class or two. There are many local sheriff's departments that offer free firearm instruction classes. You may consider calling your local LEO department/office and see what's available in your community. A tool in a properly trained hand is nothing to be afraid of. A tool in an untrained hand is.

Regarding stun guns, I've never actually looked into them. I wish I could be more help.

On a similar note, I was afraid of guns when my Dad bought his first .22 (I was 11 at the time). I didn't even want to try shooting it. He brought me to the range and gave me some quality instruction time, and I got over my fears really quick. My outlook was totally changed.

Get pepper spray. I was playing a gig one night and this dude picked up what he thought was a lighter at the bar...and went to light his ciggarette..it was pepper spray. it knocked him across the room and cleared the bar for about an hour. tones

Well, if he's gonna quit smoking, that'll do it :D

Do you know that some are trained to withstand those agents, retain their weapon and fire back at you with accuracy within 30 seconds?

Now take someone that is high on some drug, they fight back with deadly force immediately.

Arm yourselves.

I was told by a police officer that some people on "certain drugs" would not feel the pepper spray or mace. Even have seen a drunk dood on cops that was not feelin' any of it and the cops were holding him down spraying him in the eyes. Plus you gotta also remember that military types DO this type training where they go and sit in a chamber pumped with this type shit. Its basic training.

A stun gun is not a substitute for a real firearm. Your best bet is to find someone that will take you to the range and let you try it out. Many ranges and gun stores also offer classes for beginners. Take one and give it a try. You might find you like it!

Ya, been there, done that.

All I am saying is, if you really want a defense, arm yourself. And of course, that may not be sufficient. But it is probably the best you can do.

Yeah I also saw this episode of what I think was called "Most Craziest Scariest Insanest Videos Ever" where there was this drunk duck being aggressive, he had also been taking PCP I believe.

Anyways the cops shot him 4 times with Taser Pistols (shoot out electrodes that grab onto your clothes or flesh) and it did nothing. He just ripped off the electrodes. They reloaded and tried again, then they tried using OC spray and he still didn't feel it. Kept swinging at them anyway. So they had to take him down the old fashioned way, with physical force. It took 4 big cops to hold him down until reinforcements arrived. One of the officers got a pretty nasty bite.

I would recommend getting a .22 to get used to shooting. I am thinking about getting a .22 when I get in called a GSG-5 which looks like a MP-5. The ammo is cheap and You can go to the range and practice shooting. You need to look at it as a challenge to hit the target especially the center. The more You practice the more You realize its just a tool. After You become comfortable buy a 9mm or a .45 and use that for defense.

Someone needs to invent a hand gun that has both stun gun capabilities and a bullet clip.

You're probably better off that way.

People pre-disposed to murderous rages should stay away from any form of weapons IMO.
