Ron Paul Gains Prominent Endorsements in Montana

MISSOULA, MONTANA—Rising 2008 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul was endorsed last week by the Montana Sports Shooting Association (MSSA), adding to his growing list of endorsements from Montana politicians.

"Ron Paul has been a consistent and ardent supporter of the rights of gun owners for 30 years,” said MSSA President Gary Marbut. “We commend him to all thoughtful and concerned gun owners."

The MSSA is a political action group that has successfully supported the Second Amendment rights of gun owners in Montana for the past twenty years, and has now thrown its support behind GOP presidential contender and Texas congressman Ron Paul. “Ron Paul has a long history of being four square in support of the right to keep and bear arms,” Mr. Marbut added.

Several Montana state legislators have recently endorsed Congressman Paul’s candidacy as well. State Senator (Senate District 3) Jerry O’Neil , State Representative (House District 12) Rick Jore, and State Representative (House District 70) Roger Koopman have come out in support of the 10-term Texas congressman.

Congressman Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in the nation’s capital. In his uncompromising support for the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights, he has never voted to restrict gun-owners’ Second Amendment rights, and has consistently fought to uphold American citizens’ civil liberties.

He's got good momentum here, but with the GOP taking away our primary, I think Willard has it. Ron might end up a solid second, but that's not good for anything when it comes to delegates.

It is only open to certain people, including elected Republican officials (like the 4 listed above who have endorsed RP) and precinct committeemen and committeewomen (there is an application on the following page for applying to empty committeeman / woman positions):

FYI for those interested in voting in the Feb. 5 caucus. You can still sign up to be GOP precintc committee person but you have to do it fast.

This is an urgent and time sensitive appeal. Please read and reply immediately.

Most of you are not yet aware of this, but the Montana Republican Party did a rule change this past August.

Because of this rule change, the decision on who will be the Republican Party nominee for President will now be decided in a closed Montana Republican Party Presidential Caucus on February 5th.

In a nutshell, what this means is that unless you are a Republican party insider, you will not have a vote in deciding who the Republican nominee from Montana will be.

Unlike in past presidential elections, this year approximately 3000 select Republicans from around the state will be the only ones with the opportunity to vote for their favorite presidential candidate in a closed, party-run caucus. The winner of the caucus will be guaranteed the support of all of Montana's 25 delegates to the Republican National Convention next September in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In years past, Montana's delegates to the National Convention could vote for whomever they individually chose and were not bound to support the candidate who won the Montana Presidential Primary. This new format of Presidential Caucus is a very important change to how Montana Republicans choose their presidential candidate.

Only Republican Legislatures and other Republican elected officials will be given the opportunity to cast a vote. One of the largest groups of people who will be eligible to vote in this Presidential Caucus are what is called precinct committeeman and committeewomen. Montana has 56 counties, each county divided into multiple precincts. Each precinct consists of one precinct committeeman and one precinct committeewoman. Each committeeman and woman will have the honor of voting for the candidate that best represents his or her precinct. This is where you can play a vital role.

If you'd like to be able to vote in this important caucus, there are still open precinct positions available, but you must act now. Some counties are filling these open precinct positions as quickly as they can.

If you care about the future of this Republic, about your freedoms and liberties, the time to get involved is today.

Here is how you can help. The only qualification to becoming a precinct committeeman or committeewoman is that you are registered to vote in the precinct in which you live.

If you are interested in being appointed to your precinct and voting in the Caucus, please do the following immediately.

1) Contact your county election department to a) verify you are registered to vote at your current address, b) have them tell you what precinct you reside in

2) Immediately email [email protected]. and specifically include a) your name and all of your contact information b) your county and c) your precinct number.

All of this information is vital to send.

I will confirm if the precinct you live in is vacant, and will contact you give you further details about how to begin the simple process of being appointed as an official committee member.

The other presidential campaigns are actively recruiting their supporters to fill precincts around the state, so do not delay!

1) At your county courthouse Elections office obtain the current list of Republican Party Precinct Men and Women ( it's public information and they'll readily give it to you)

2) While at the courthouse also get a county precinct map. Coordinate with other Meetup folks in your county and plan to go to the next Republican Party Central Commitee Meeting for your county.

3) On the web, find out when your county Republican central committee meets

4) Without either hiding your Ron Paul support, nor rabidly spewing it like a flock of mad monkeys ATTEND the REPUBLICAN PARTY MEETINGS in DECEMBER and January. Make sure you have your voter registration card.

5)Sincerely and with enthusiasm, nominate yourself (aka volunteer) to fill the vacancy in your precinct if one exists (you must live and be registered to vote there - one man and one woman from each precinct).

6)Please understand that at this moment, less than half the precincts in this state have precinct persons in place.Right now both Romney and Guilliani campaigns have people on the ground trying to beat you to this approach. Don't be afraid - we have them hands down in numbers of dedicated and enthusiastic supporters. But DON'T dawdle!!

7)Once nominated, an election will have to take place no later than the January 2008 Republican Party meeting. You will then be able to vote in the February 5th Caucus.

8) Share your insights about Ron Paul and his message with your fellow Precinct committee people at the meetings. Trust me - they're amazed at the job of mobilizing that the Ron Paul campaign has done!

We installed 7 folks at the November meeting and plan another 15 between the December and January meetings here.

An important note: You may have no wish to be involved in the political process other than to campaign for Ron Paul. But reconsider your committment: Is it to the rEVOLution or the only to the man? This revolution will take time. In fact, you may need to push for candidates in other races, county, State and National. Why? Because if we get Ron Paul elected President, and don't give him a Congress to work WITH him, we'll have put him in office with cuffs on.
