Ron Paul Will Not Run 3rd Party?

I got a letter from Ron Paul saying he will not run third party.

He's done this before so I have suspicions he will if we cannot win a brokered convention.

Huck says he will not drop out.

Ron Paul says he will continue as long as we have confidence in him and finance his campaign. By denying the possibility of a third party run he's not fulfilling his promise.

He knows that his supporters want him to run 3rd party if the unspeakable happens.

Sorry my friend, it seems like you are in denial. Its not going to happen there will be no 3rd party run. Dr. Paul needs to defend his congressional seat.

two questions you have to ask:

if he did run third party, could he win? i think the answer is no. the media would black him out EVEN MORE than they are now. not only would they still not like him, but he wouldn't be in one of the two major parties, so they'd have plenty of excuses.

would running independant benefit the long term movement? i think the answer is no. he needs to remain republican so we can start a movement to bring freedom loving principles back into congress. the best way to do that is with a party.

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get...................

Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican.

I think that pretty much says it all.

He is making the right decision, but I still won't support any of the other candidates. We move forward for sure, it is good that he is staying and influencing as much as he can with these GATES of HELL warriors. It is time for PEACE.

ITA with Dr. Paul. As much as I'd like to see Dr. Paul be president, short of a miracle, it's not going to happen. It is more important that he defend his congressional seat. Dr. Paul is a Republican, he left the party for 1 year to run as the Libertarian presidential candidate, but quickly returned to the Republican party.

He may not win, but if Nader and Bloomberg end up running he should run because with more choices come lower win margins. Hell even if only one of them did he should run. He would gain the Libertarian support if he ran as one. I think it would make a truly historic election it would be more about having a choice of who you think is the best instead of the one that will hurt us the least.

Besides...couldn't he just change party affiliations if he loses?


being in congress doesn't make as much difference than the job that can completely shut all of congress down.

and of course it would benefit the long term movement, i know Doctor Paul's run for the office has changed my outlook on politics, the economy, and foreign policy from the day i first researched it. its inspired me to try to change the world around me, if he runs it could inspire future leaders.

The Republican party is corrupt. We don't need a party we need a philosophy.

It bugs me, if anti-war Republicans had remained Republicans instead of switching over to the libertarian party we would have won the delegate count hands down.




We shouldn't destroy the GOP, we should rebuild it!

Ralph Nader ran both 3rd party and Independent and look how far he got.

He was shut out of the debates and also independents and 3rd parties have a helluva time getting on the ballots. If Paul ran independent it's hard to say if his name would even be on all the ballots in November.

No doubt, they will ignore this too.

I have just come to accept that a good amount of people here joined in because they were hoping for a third party, moreso than they believe in Dr. Paul's pure conservativism.

It will be interesting to see how many stay to fight to take back the Republican party and how many go searching for a new third party leader.

Different year...different scenario entirely.

McCain is a very weak Republican. Hillary is a hated Democrat. I'll be voting 3rd party without a doubt.

Agreed. I don't see how anyone could be a Ron Paul supporter and then go and vote for McCain or Democrat. That would be very inconsistent and well, evil!
