and note their comments about how Perry has dropped despite still being number one with only ONE PER CENT difference in vote between him and Ron (well, and between Ron and the next place, to be fair.)

Note this comment regarding Ron's outreach:

There is no doubt that Paul’s long-term fiscal message resonates, but there is also no doubt that there has not been enough grassroots effort by Paul supporters and staff to capitalize on that message or to take advantage of the opening such on-going battles between other candidates presents.

“Instead of running ads attacking Perry, he should be running ads promoting himself,” a panelist said. “Or, better yet, spend that money on grassroots outreach. Bring some high-profile surrogates into the state that will not only re-energize his already loyal following, but that might have the potential of bringing a few new bodies into the fold.”

My understanding is Ron is there again this week, and of course he just had two debates and an appearance in California at the GOP Convention-esque stuff, so he has been busy. But Iowa is apparently feeling a bit neglected.

Nice. Who would be a good surrogate for RP? Rand? Who else could campaign for us in Iowa?

“Ron Paul is probably the biggest beneficiary of the in-fighting among the media-dubbed favorites,” a panelist wrote. “Paul doesn’t have Romneycare, a Gardasilgate or a set of Bachmann-esque gaffes so he’s the logical landing-point for voters turned off by those other guys’ baggage.”

That thought had occurred to me as well. It might be time to stop with the negative ads.

I agree with this on so many levels! We really need to spend all this money on things that will attract other voters, and I too would rather see positive ads over attack ads.

IMO the campaign should get Jesse Ventura to campaign in Iowa. To win the caucus Paul or at least some other big name needs to campain in EVERY COUNTY. Caucus takes a lot more to win than a primary vote because people need to be energized and willing to participate for their candidate.

Jesse Ventura was governor of the state that shares a very big border with Iowa and he can really tap into the anti-establishment feeling that Paul is going for. I don't know how many times Ive heard people say "vote them all out". Ventura wants Paul to be president and he knows the midwest and how to win here.

I love Rand but I don't think most of Iowa's population would care to see him like someone like Ventura.

Strongly disagree.

I would agree no more attacking others. Clearly they need more people on the ground reaching out to MORE republicans.

Remember that old 'Reaganesque', 'Sunrise in America' type ad Adam T etc were discussing?..... Maybe that would be better than 'plastic men'.... keeping 'plastic men' as an internet only ad.... or for later in the cycle... Or just use the end part with the positive pro-Ron message.

Jesse is a bit polarizing. I don't think Ron has an equal on the 'anti establishment' side. I think Rand would be better, or someone more traditionally Iowa conservative. It almost looks like they want an 'excuse' to vote for Ron, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Paul isnt gaffe free unfortunately, Perry and Romney just dont have any reason to punch down (yet). When Ron breaks 15-20%, expect constant attention to be given to the newsletters, the working with pakistan to catch bin laden quote, and revisiting all the CRA stuff.

We need someone seniors would come see.

CRA he dealt with well with Matthews, and the newsletters are so debunked, I think he frankly looks good at the end of the day on that point. It is so clearly grasping at straws. The issue has been debunked since the 1990s and only because it was brought up the day before the primary and people weren't looking for it did it have any power, imho. I looked at that first thing before becoming a supporter, and found that not only did it pop like a soap bubble, Ron's history is positively inspiring. I was just looking for someone to vote for against McCain and because of looking into that issue, became a much stronger supporter. I welcome others doing the same.

If it's seniors that need to be reached than I think there is no better person than Ron himself. As a senior they would more easily identify when him than a guy like Mitt Romney. You'd be hard-pressed to find people in Iowa that have his kind of money and power. and I think it would be very easy to stand out just by pointing out Mitt's wealth (Like Tim Pawlenty timidly attempted a few times during debates)

True. Sadly, Ron can only be in one place at a time, so it would be nice to have someone who could spread his message effectively who could broaden his reach.

And the newsletter story has came and went. It won't work to detract people... In fact I see more black support for Ron Paul than ANY OTHER republican candidate.

TRUE STORY: I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa and a few weeks ago I put a Ron Paul bumper sticker on a cheap accoustic guitar and sat downtown to play and spread the good message of RP. Within 5 mins of being there a black man drove by in a truck and honked his horn and held out a big thumbs up to me. What other republican would pull that support from blacks ?? Maybe I'm overly biased but I dont see them associated with Romney, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum or any of the others.

When looking into RP's positions, most minorities can see that his style of governing would be more likely to benefit them so even if Paul had a racist rant 40 years ago (which has never been proven in the slightest), he would still be a better president for minorities.

Romney is actually pretty old. 64 - I think he's juicin' though, doin' some HGH injections to maintain that youthful look

He never did have any such thing. His speaking style from the 70s is on youtube and is the same as now. Credible sources don't pretend he wrote anything, they want him to create a new news cycle by 'denouncing' someone for snark 20 years after the event, and creating a media scape goat. Ron won't remotely consider doing such a thing, particularly since he'd only be guessing at the identity of the people involved.
