Ron Paul Go GREEN

Agree

A lot of people worry about it, that it is true or not there should be a stronger concern for green issues.

I worry about it too. The article makes some good points, about tort reform so that companies can be sued for polluting the environment. However, it also advocates for a green tax, which RP would never support as it's not in the Constitution.

How is a "green tax" not in the constitution? The constitution doesn't say specifically what cannot be taxed and what can - down to that level of detail. It only says what KIND of taxes can and cannot be made.

For example, corporate income tax isn't specifically listed in the constitution - but it is accepted as being constitutional, because it is an appropriate KIND of tax.

Gasoline tax is another great example - Ron Paul approves this kind of tax, although he is dismayed that it is not being spent to fund what it was supposed to - our highway system.

A green tax is an EXCELLENT idea - especially if it was justified by taking the money earned and SPENDING it on environmental cleanup. Makes PERFECT sense to me really...

I have said it for some time the property rights issue is not getting voters. He should use the free market/small government argument coupled with the environment to bring in new voters who might not know much about free markets. IE If the corporations were not able to hide behind federal legislation the market would have demanded cheaper more efficient alternatives by now. Whenever there is any kind of bad press or a law suit for environmental issues magacorp issues the standard "We comply with all federal, FDA, EPA regulations/standards" The problem is these standards that are written by corrupt politicians taking money from the industries they are supposed to change. The end result is a new way for government/corporations to shove a knife in our belly while claiming its just a hug.

I think as a Republican he should not be talking about any knew taxes especially while trying to get the nomination. It would be used against him. He could stick to his current theme and principles but bring up some interesting points that will get people thinking. Real free markets are more fair than over regulation because over regulation breeds greater corruption.

Ron Paul firmly believes that the free market will do a much better job of controlling polluters than the government ever could. The Soviet Union was one of the worst polluters on the planet and that entire third of the world is still reeling from the damage. We're just so used to government control of the situation that we can't comprehend how the market could make it work. See The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism to learn how the free market can stop pollution.
