Conservative activist Steve Lonegan, a two-time gubernatorial candidate and former Americans for Prosperity adviser, has decided to run in August’s Republican primary for New Jersey’s special Senate election. He is the first candidate to officially announce, and he brings a statewide network of tea-party activists with him.

Here was Ron's endorsement of Lonegan when he ran for Governor in 09:

Congressman Ron Paul has endorsed Steve Lonegan in the New Jersey Gubernatorial Primary. The endorsement was announced today in a statewide email to Dr. Paul’s thousands of fans and supporters in the Garden State.

Said Dr. Paul, “I was very impressed by Steve Lonegan’s record of budget restraint as Mayor of Bogota, NJ. Steve has been a vocal critic of runaway spending and taxpayer funded bailouts, and he understands that we must reject the nanny state and return government to its proper, restrained role.

“Sending Steve Lonegan to Trenton would be a tremendous victory for the people of New Jersey.”

New Jersey state Senator Michael Doherty, who endorsed Ron Paul, is backing Lonegan:

The only other candidate in the GOP primary is an unknown doctor with no political experience. I think I'll be comfortable with backing Steve. No third party candidates will be on the October ballot anyway, since there were only six days to collect signatures.

I had read somewhere that Dr. Eck might be even more Ron Paul than Lonegan, though there isn't much on her.

This is interesting... he's running on an anti-Obamacare, anti-IRS, anti-NSA platform

Should prove a nice contrast to Boooker.

Will the pie man campaign for him? Will Rand? How much of a lost cause is New Jersey?

Will National GOP throw some money at the race and test these messages and see how well they play?

Christie is a closet Democrat and will not support someone this conservative, let alone campaign for him. It would hurt his image as a "bi-partisan" centrist. Isn't he close with Booker too?

Ive been seeing his name around but didn't know Ron endorsed him for Governor. Thanks.
