ROBERT F Kennedy Jr has put the brakes on a multi-million-dollar contract with the American biotech company Vaxart to create a covid vaccine pill, FoxNews Digital reported.


On February 21 the Health Secretary issued a 90-day stop-work order on the contract until HHS determines whether it is ‘prudent and safe’ to continue. The next phase of the company’s clinical trial, involving 10,000 participants, was just about to start. In it, Vaxart was planning to test the efficacy of its vaccine against existing mRNA vaccines, bypassing a placebo-controlled assessment.

We have the worst of both worlds, we fund everything and then let big pharm charge exorbitant prices through patent protections.

An easy fix, which wouldn't even require any changes to law, is to actually use the march-in rights that are provided to the government through the Bayh-Dole Act.

The US government could recoup some, or even all, of its funding costs by selling patent licenses to other pharmaceutical companies, but they choose to basically never do that. The march-in rights have never even been used at all.
