Rep Thad McCotter resigns from Congress

Someone told me that Snyder wants a special primary so party endorsed St.Sen. Cassis can have nomination..

DOesn't make any sense to me. The primary is in 3-4 weeks.

McCotter’s seat leans Republican and should be retained by the GOP. Gov.
Rick Snyder
(R) does not have to call a special election before the November general election, and it seems unlikely he would do so, given the cost of holding one and the short time between now and then.

Right. I assume the write-in campaign is for the general election... could it be for the primary? I've just never before heard of a write-in candidate for a primary election.

The write-in campaign is indeed for the primary, AFAIK.

That was my impression from reading the forums here, but I can't point to anything specifically. I think they had a primary challenger at one time that dropped out, causing them to scramble and show exactly how badly they'd like to not align themselves with a freedom candidate.

McCotter was the incumbent, while Bentovolio was the primary challenger. When McCotter had to drop out, the GOP went into a tizzy.

Yes, there are quotes from GOP members saying they were upset that McCotter was off the ballot, because they would never vote for a TEA Party candidate.
