Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Mich.) had a case of the first-day butterflies, but wasn’t scared of the work ahead of him. The thought of working long days to try to solve the nation’s financial woes doesn’t overwhelm the Army veteran.
“It’s not quite as much as I felt when I got off the plane in Iraq or when I got off the plane in Vietnam,” he said. “You still get those battlefield jitters a bit, but nobody is shooting at you hopefully.”
The only things that scare Bentivolio are public speaking and the press, though as a new member of Congress, he’s working on getting over both.
“I’m going to do my best to fight for my children and my grandchildren; that’s what I’ll say on the floor,” he said. “Let’s do it.”
