RedState: Gary Johnson’s Donation Page Surges Past Intended Goal By Thousands, Still Rising

Gary Johnson is once again showing signs that he's a very real contender in this election. Not only is Johnson rising in the polls, and garnering endorsements, it would appear that there is a voting base out there that really wants to see the Libertarian candidate succeed.


The Johnson/Weld donation page, called "The Money Comet" was started 3 days ago, during the RNC. Under the tag "The two party system is a dinosaur. You are the comet," the original goal for the donation page was $25,000.


As of right now, the "money comet" has hit $156,738, and it's not done yet.

Actually, there is a lot of common ground to be found by Libertarians and conservatives on that score, beginning with the respect for Constitutional liberties. Johnson may be pro-choice, but the Libertarians had no problem accepting Ron Paul despite his consistent pro-life beliefs.

As it stands now, neither of the two major party candidates give a tinker's damn about the Constitution, religious liberty OR the abortion issue. Hillary hates and despises guns and the Second Amendment and Trump is just pretending not to. Economically, they are both anti-free market, big government leftwingers, and when it comes to national and global security Hillary, unbelievably, is better than Trump. Even Johnson, who is something of a Libertarian outlier, is going to be with you on about 85-percent of policy issues, and he at least believes in what he says and is a fundamentally decent man. I've got a huge problem with him on national defense and national security, but I'm voting for him anyway given the alternatives.

If conservative Republicans back Johnson in force you can put him on that debate stage and have a huge, unmistakable impact on this election; an impact which could make the Libertarian Party seen as a viable future force. Once the vote is done and the GOP is pronounced dead and buried, a massive movement by conservatives to the Libertarian party could easily transform it more to your liking, and give us the freedom loving, small government conservative party that we need.

Just for once, for God's sake, conservatives need to stop making the perfect the enemy of the good and act in our long-term interests. I can't think of a better time to start than now, with support for Gary Johnson
