Here is the latest message from Aaron Bolinger, who one of the leading figures in the fight against Real ID in PA...

URGENT developments in Pennsylvania!

THE MOMENT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!

One week from now will be the BIGGEST for our Real ID fights since the battle began. TWO hearings (House, 17th IGA “meeting” to take up the Thomas bill; & Senate 18th Communications & Technology HEARING on SB 1220) are scheduled. We need PRESENCE in the state capitol as much as possible NEXT WEEK.

Call it a three day party, fully equipped with at least one press conference, a protest/demonstration/rally, and two hearings. We need HELP, and we need bodies! Here’s the drill:

HELP WANTED: PROTESTORS (June 16)

First, we must MAKE some news to get the full state media watching. The best way to manage that is a down & dirty sign-waiving DEMONSTRATION in front of the offices of PennDOT on Mon., the 16th.

BECAUSE a PRESS CONFERENCE is being scheduled the same day by legislators, we do not have a meeting time yet set for the rally. Stay tuned!

To be effective, this should be a full-on, bull-horning event. Signs should be made with these (and whatever you want) slogans:

CANCEL THE VIISAGE CONTRACT
GET PENNDOT OUT OF THE ID BUSINESS
SAY “NO” TO BIOMETRICS
$45.5 MILLION WOULD FIX OUR ROADS
NO REAL ID IN THE KEYSTONE
FIX THE BUDGET: CANCEL THE CONTRACT
THE HIJACKERS DIDN’T HAVE PHONEY PA ID CARDS
911 HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PENNDOT

Anyone who wants to take a lead role in organizing the demonstration, please contact me. We want to do this at the PennDOT building (primarily protesting against biometrics). Plan to spend time there most of the day, except to attend the press conference. Be visible, be peaceful, and be vocal! If possible, plan to have the signs IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING on the next two hearing days as well.

WRITTEN TESTIMONY (HOUSE)

The Intergovernmental Affairs Committee hearing on Rep. Thomas’ HB 2537 will be held in room 302, Irvis Office Building, beginning at 9:30 am. ALL OUR SUPPORTERS need to WRITE any testimony in advance, and e-mail it to Jim ASAP (his e-mail is comptonjr AT comcast DOT net). This way, he can copy it in sufficient quantity for ALL members of the PA Assembly to receive it BEFORE the hearings! Testimony should focus on the key points (money for roads vs. Super ID cards, biometrics, cancelling the contract with Viisage, stronger language in SB 1220/HB 1351 vs. HB 2537, etc.)

WRITTEN TESTIMONY (SENATE)

Focus on the strength of SB 1220, along with all other key points for the members of the Communications & Technology Committee. Their hearing on Real ID will be on the 18th.

PLAN if possible to be in Harrisburg for either or BOTH of these hearings, along with the rally! Before or after the hearings, continue working YOUR Senator and Representative to fight hard on the floor for the STRONGEST, pro-liberty language possible against the 18 elements of Real ID.

ALL LEGISLATORS NEED TO BE WORKED!

The more presence we have – the more bodies our legislators see roaming the halls irritated at Real ID, the better our odds of winning.

This is it folks – it won’t get any more interesting than Harrisburg will be next week. Make plans now. Stay in an area hotel if needed for travel-logistics reasons. We need people PRESENT. Now is the time, if we are going to WIN on this issue.

Just wanted to bump this. Anyone who is near Harrisburg: please try to help out!

So what happened with the hearings and protest? Waiting for some good word here.

Again, what happened with the hearings and protest here? Still waiting for a report on this. Anyone in PA who can tell us what went down?
edit: This is important because PA is one of (if not the) states that is most gung-ho about bending over for this crap. PA has already complied with 11 of the 16 requirements of real id. This is a very important battleground state in the war against read id, and what happens here needs to be watched very closely.
