Rand Paul will be on Meet the Press Sunday

Oh man he's going to be ambushed. With his latest poll numbers it might be best for him to just stay out of the national media for a while (except fox).

No, he needs to answer it and diffuse it, just like he did Grayson's charge that he was not a Kentuckian -- saying something that will end the arguments immediately. He needs something similar to his "I've been a Kentuckian longer than Trey's been a Republican" line. I trust that Rand and his team are working on exactly what to say right now. My best wishes to them.

You know that you get a lot of interviews when someone advertises that yours is the only scheduled interview of the day. Did Rand promise "Meet the Press" that they would be the only one for Sunday?

Meet the Press is on at 9am Sunday on WAVE-TV 3 in Louisville.

Trey made this mistake when he was up. Trey knew he couldn't debate the issues.

Rand can debate and he should take the media as it comes to him. Hone his message. Ron was a master at flipping a debate on an interviewer. A philosophy of liberty is comprehensive... it gives Rand a lot of angles to turn any argument around and paint individual liberty and limited gov as the most thoughtful and humanitarian
way to approach problems.

Rand will need to be quick and practice quick to avoid any forced errors early on, but he shouldn't turn down media.

This.

The problem with most Republicans is that they're stuck in the middle of philosophies are haven't thought through the logical outcomes and principles of what they espouse. Hence, you see the likes of Palin, Hannity and McCain full of contradictions and excuses, with the result being that many viewers will be left feeling unsatisfied with what they've heard.

I think people appreciate someone who has a sound, principled argument. It makes them more believable (look at us - we love Ron Paul because he is thoroughly principed).

Rand is the same and I'm confident this thing about "civil rights" will pass. Any thinking voter will know that Rand isn't racist and most people have surely caught on that conservatives are called racist by racist "progressives" regardless of what they say or do.

Furthermore, this has happened right at the beginning of the general election campaign. There are, what, five months to go? This mud won't stick and people will be more concerned about Konway's pro-abortion, pro-cap and trade, pro-national healthcare stances.

I trust (and hope) that Rand and David Adams are prepping for this like they're going into combat, because they are. I think what we're seeing is the strategy of the DNC and Obama Administration for the Fall...they know that if the GOP is going to have major electoral gains, it will be because of Tea Party candidates like Rand. Their goal, therefore, is to make Rand the representative for the Tea Party movement in general, and the GOP in particular, and to make sure that as many people as possible percieve Rand as racist.

So, Rand Paul=Racism. Rand Paul=Tea Party. Tea Party=GOP.

Therefore, GOP=Racism.

They'd like to pick up Bunning's seat, sure. But honestly, I think that's secondary. What they really want is to make the GOP=Racism charge stick, so that even if Rand wins (which he probably will, given that he's running in Kentucky and Conway is pro-Obama), the Dems will still hold onto control of the House and Senate because they'll have used the racism taint to tip the balance in the competitive states and districts.

Paul and his strategists need to develop an answer to this question before Sunday. In my opinion, the best way to go is to open up and say it - the lunch counter ban was not the Constitututional purview of the federal government. He should then use as an example Michael Richards. Yeah, it's okay for a businessowner to own a racist business, but in today's America you'd see universal comdemnation that would drive them from the marketplace. Racism cannot be legislated away, it can only be made as unpopular as possible, and that is where we have truly succeeded - by shifting the public opinion so far from racist thinking that racism has become unviable as a business strategy.

But no ducking, no spinning away from the question.

He should be prepped for the civil rights issue. But they will most likely hit him with a new subject, probably Iran, Israel, War on Terror, etc. Rand and his staff better prep for that scenario too.

Maybe they'll ask him about the Civil War...lol...

I think they'll hit him hard on Civil Rights Act and ADA

The ADA thing is going to hurt us too

He should say "look, we were having a philosophical discussion about an issue from 40 years ago. I'm not looking to repeal the ADA and Civil Rights Act. Even if someone wanted to, do you think it would happen? The pundits are using this as a political attack as if I'll step into office on day 1, wave a wand, and everything in the country will change. I'm against institutional racism, discrimination, and hatred to the very depths of my soul, and I'm deeply offended and disappointed that some of the media personalities have stooped so low. It shows they're desperation to attack me on a non-issue. Maybe it's because they saw the poll released earlier this week that had me up 20 points over my opponent. I'm just one senator who hopes to do his part to save our country from the ever-growing debt and the career politicians that do nothing about it"

They're going to hit him on the New Deal. Their entire platform was founded on this unconstitutional trash. They want to create a divide with older baby boomers who still haven't caught on about the Raw Deal.

Then he should say "I don't think Kentucky voters or your viewers care about philosophical discussions about the Civil War. It happened a long time ago and helped to end one of the darkest parts of our history. I think voters care about more contemporary issues like jobs, the economy, the debt, immigration, and freedom, and we should move onto these issues which are important NOW rather than to issues that Lincoln debated"

Rand needs to watch himself on this one

He needs to explain that we don't have the $ and that it's going to collapse unless he helps fix it.

He needs to make clear that he is personally not going to wave a wand and all the programs will disappear

People hear "Rand Paul is against medicare, social security, etc." and think "oh my God what would I do without these programs! He's REALLY gonna make them disappear" when in reality he's 1 senator. It'd require a true revolution to bring in enough senators to get rid of those.

He needs to just focus on STOPPING government growth (healthcare) and then cutting spending in other areas. He really needs to avoid the "dismantle entire departments" argument

A simple, straight-forward answer would be good to start with. "I am 100% opposed to discrimination or segregation of any kind, in both the public and private sector." Next topic! "My candidacy is primarily about the Federal budget, and that is where I am focusing all of my effort." (Then they attack him about the New Deal. Ugh!)

They are going to paint him as a greedy racist that hates old people. But for them, thats nothing new. People are tired of it and it will backfire on them.
