This is the 1980s as seen by MTV. This show was broadcasted in December 1989.
It is extremely political and specific to the issues of the era but is also a reflection of the 80's as well as reflective of the impact of the arts during that time on culture and political perception. Now, I'll say that if you didn't live it then you may not understand it. And that's fine. But we hear a lot of yappers on political radio and tv talk about the Reagan era and the conservative 80's. The arts had a lot to do with the conservative lifestyles of people. They really did. A huge impact. It was just different then but recall that economically we were in great shape. We need to get back to the cultural way of life that was so fruitful back then.
Of course, once grunge hit the youth went to crap and made everyone miserable but that is another story. MTV changed and catered to that demograph and then it went to crap too.
It's long but a lot of young people here may appreciate it. And even if they don't I think they'd benefit in some way just by sitting through the vid. Especially when they hear politicos talk about the conservative 80's. It seems like they always talk about them aside from culture. And culture was a HUGE part of the success of the 80's and the conservative lifestyle. I don't think that this generation really understands the power that they have. Or could have, I should say.
Also CMT was big in that regard. I think it was CMT. Not sure. Country music isn't country anymore either. That's all pop and caters modern....something. Can't think of the word.
