My first thought when they closed the embassies was that it would be tied to a justification for collecting all of our phone records and such. This CNN segment leads right off with the narrative that the massive surveillance state is what allowed terrorist messages to be intercepted. Of course we just have to accept the government claim that it is all for our own good and tapping 300+ Americans communications is all for the best.
