Hey All!
I have a very close uncle of mine who has slowly become somewhat of a libertarian over the past two years. It's been great! We agree on almost everything. He's on board with Rand Paul especially after Randal's most recent patriot act speech on the senate floor.
Of course it's tough to agree on 100% of issues, as we all have ours views and inclinations, and our most recent discussion revolved around Fox News. Here's our facebook convo below. I'm not looking to "win" him over or prove him wrong by any stretch of the imagination, but any thoughts for him/me to consider would be cool :o
UNCLE:
Hey Anthony, thanks for the post about Rand Paul. I agree and support him 100%. BTW - the only network covering his speech was "Faux News."
ME:
Haha "I will not take it any more!" it was awesome.
that's cool. However, Fox news is just a part of the hawkish wing of the party. Military industrial complex special interests. They'll cover him because they have no choice as long as Rand makes speeches and headlines such as these, but they'll have guys like krauthammer, Kyle rove, dick Cheney, and all sorts of Bush Era Warhawks come on the air and lambast Rand, just as they did yesterday morning. Which is fine, I have no problems with that... Just as long as they live up to their "fair and balanced" motto, which they've failed to live up to already this presidential season by Fucking with Rand three times in May alone - http://rare.us/story/fox-news-continues-to-blackout-rand-paul-in-their-poll-coverage/
As a Ron Paul fan, they did this to him as well, so it's not surprising. I'm just happy that Rand isn't as scatter brained and polite as his father was, and won't take this shit going forward.
Im not a conspiracy theorist but the talking points repeated by rove, perino, hume, krauthammer, and other on Fox are so intentional and are at the very least informally coordinated if not outright trying to damage Rand. I just don't understand when the average fox news Republican (you know who I'm talking about... Those who vote just because the rep has an R next to his or her name) will wake up to these blatant schemes.
Anyone who threatens the foreign policy/surveillance status quo will be targeted and harassed.
UNCLE:
Totally understand your point. The only thing that worries me is sometime we fall into the trap of using the lingo of the left when it makes us feel good. Every News organization has their bias, it's no secret that Fox leans to the right, but my answer to that is THANK GOD THEY DO. To bash Fox News for whatever reason is to assist in the absolute control that is sought and very nearly accomplished by our Marxist friends on the left. Without Fox News their would literally be a complete blackout of the truth. Calling Fox News FAUX news unwittingly makes us a "Useful Idiot".
UNCLE:
Hey, just to be clear, the 'useful idiot' term is not related to any of the points you're making. It's not an insult, it's a term the Marxist use.
ME:
But I think that's my whole point. MSNBC slants left, Fox News slants right. All of these news organizations are in place to keep the status quo alive, to keep the false left-right paradigm in place. Most of our republican friends always complain about the left-right paradigm, lambast the out-of-touch government, and rightly criticize the establishment republicans for their lack of integrity and will to uphold their oath to the constitution as they all routinely preach in their speeches - but yet these same people still allow their views to be shaped by the likes of Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly who are complete shills for the republican establishment. Let's face it: Fox News does a great job at making money, and blowing with the winds of change. When Bush was in office, the entire network was pro-bailout, pro-iraq war, pro-patriot act, and they were incredibly successful. Bush was in office. He had an R next to his name. Fox News became the hub of the Republican brand. With the arrival of Obama in office, suddenly Fox News is pro-tea party, anti-government........just blowing with the whims of change. Suddenly, Fox News cleverly re-branded themselves as the Tea Party Network, and their viewership boomed during the 2010-2011 tea party protests.
I watched Fox News at one point and still tune in to see if they've changed, but when Glenn Beck was booted off after his show began to into libertarian mode and libertarian principles, when Andrew Napolitano's Freedom Watch Libertarian show was ended, and Ron Paul was treated unfairly in the Fox News debates and on-air, it kinda approved everything that I was thinking in the back of my mind. This channel is no different than CNN or MSNBC in terms of preserving the democract-republican complex. As soon as you go outside the spectrum of Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush, you're considered a radical republican who is "not sure what party he's running for", as Charles Krauthammer stated this week about Rand Paul. That proves my point.
In the U.S. we basically have a bi-polar system with no acceptace of alternative views. As a result most networks are either liberal or conservative leaning within the U.S. definition of those terms.
Ron Paul and Rand Paul are neither liberal or conservative within the common definition of those terms. Instead, they have labeled themselves on several occasions as conservative libertarian, or even just libertarian. Most people in the U.S. see politics as a straight line with people falling to the left, right, or center of it; cable news executives included. Introducing Libertarian views is akin to adding a second line that doesn't connect with the current philosophical norms...it easier to pretend as if it is not there because otherwise they would have to help to inform the public about all options.
This of course can not be allowed because if Libertarians were allowed in it could open the door to other ideologies. Think about it: what if liberal voters were not afraid to vote Progressive, Green, or Socialist...the Democrats would be dead in the water. Like wise if Constitutionalists, Reformists, and Tea Party folks just ran on their own merit instead of going through the sausage grinder that is the GOP.
UNCLE:
Dude, you're preaching to the choir. We pretty much agee on most things, However, there is a difference between the type of information you get on Fox news and EVERY FUCKING OTHER NEWS OUTLET. My choice for President is Rand Paul as well but I'm not ready to allow myself to become a tool of the left when I don't get what I want. Those who believe in abortion, socialism and complete secular mind control love it when disinfected Republicans throw the baby out with the bath water. Without Fox News we would have never heard anything about the IRS targeting conservative groups, the news on Clappers lying to Congress about NSA spying,(that story broke on FOX) etc, etc etc, etc. To bash Fox News is to get in line behind the Marxist assholes desperately trying to destroy the only source of information opposition. Without Fox, Who will call out the socialist agenda then? I hear O'Reilly calling out Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren as the Socialist scum they are. I also pick up on the fact that some on Fox are not crazy about Rand Paul. Although, Megan Kelly has done two sit down interviews with Rand Paul and I don't hear you mentioning that Fox is the only Network that allowed Rand to come on and defend himself after he was accused of being short tempered and sexist in interviews. CNN didn't give him that opportunity. My point is sometime we get caught up with our own brand of indignation and we can't see the forest for the trees. Bashing Fox is like setting fire to your lifeboat on the high seas. It can only get worse!
