Rand got less than half the votes than Ron got

The media did not make Rand's key strategic choices for him. He made those choices himself.

He made the choice to sequester the leader of the liberty movement.

He made the choice to not rally the faithful in support of his campaign.

He made the choice to go weasel on some key issues and undermine his own standing as the alternative to the establishment.

Rand made these choices. The media did not. The media was a fixed element in all of this, they behave exactly as they always do. Their behavior was not a variable in the equation.

If liberty is about responsibility, then anyone who believes in it has to hold Rand responsible for the choices that created this outcome.

I agree. He did not lose because of the media but because of his own shortcomings and wrong ideas.

I fervently supported Dr. Ron Paul and so did my family and friends. Yet none of us voted for Rand and we all voted for other candidates such as Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. The reason is because Rand changes his positions and panders to minorities. Nobody is inspired by that Marxist neocon idea that is against reality.

Genius move, supporting candidates who agree with Ron on 0-50% of issues instead of 95%.

Like which ones?

I support Donald Trump because he is right on the most important issues which are immigrants, gun rights and political correctness. Rand has his head in the clouds on the most important issues and is a controlled PC candidate. Candidates like him will never succeed, and I am surprised he even has his Senate seat.

The fight that is underway is the people vs. the establishment. Ideology is secondary to that contest.

Rand made a catastrophic strategic choice to align himself with the establishment at exactly the wrong time.

RPF as a whole made a catastrophic strategic choice to bail from the anti-establishment fight just as broad swaths of the country came around to understanding that that was the main political issue of the present day.

In the here and now, Sanders supporters are more of an asset to the cause of liberty than many of the former liberty movement's adherents. It's because too many of you are too arrogant, too full of yourselves, and too unwilling to take responsibility for the real choices and real risks that must be taken to achieve liberty in the real world.

When this site is done playing Dungeons & Liberty and done denigrating everyone who is actually in the trenches fighting the oligarchy, then... ah, who's kidding who. Bunch of cowards here will go to their graves thinking they're better than everyone else because they were too high and mighty to get their hands dirty.

If you ever see any liberty at all in your lifetimes, it'll be because of those people who are getting their hands dirty now.

That's a really accurate assessment. It's sad that this is where we are now.

Can we qualify 'pandering to minorities'?

I'd have to look at his proposal to recall what all it entailed, but I think his 'pandering' was to create some 'test' cities, some of the most crime laden and economically depressed cities, and decrease/eliminate the tax and regulatory burdens on those cities (good for anyone who can avoid the state, not boohoo for us) to prove that the free-market will lift all individuals, better than welfare. These cities he was trying to bring life to are the cities you guys use statistics from to try and paint broad brushes. How is enacting tarrifs and raising minimum wage going to effect the ability for these people to climb the ladder to a better life? Rand was proposing the most libertarious path and the most effective path.

He did do outreach to the black community and good for him. As it turns out he really needed to beat his primary opponents as the dem nominee is the most self defeating individual, maybe ever. It doesn't change though that he was offering the best path forward. Voters are dumb. It aint his fault.
