Interesting comment threads. Note that the demographic of this sub is probably heavily weighted to young adult males. That's just a guess (but an educated one). From reading this thread, you can kind of get the pulse of what's going on in that demographic or, at least, the non-NPCs in that demographic. When I was that age, I was busy working my way through university and imagining the white-picket fence American dream I would live until retirement age, etc. Well, joke was on me. But as tragic as my life-story has been until now, it's nowhere as tragic as this new crop of young men who have never even had the chance to dream the American dream. They are basically living abortions. I know that's dark, but it's also truth. Functionally, how is their psychological/social condition any different than your typical young adult male born into Soviet Russia at the height of Stalin's power? You're either in the Party or you are human excrement to be wiped off the Party's boot. Please explain to me how these young American men (by and large) are in any different situation?

The United States has wholly abdicated on its "social contract", which supposedly went something like this: "We, the government, will respect the basic freedoms of the broad public (regardless of socio-economic status) and, in turn, the public will lend its conscience to obey us with loyal devotion and not merely out of fear of punishment." When you make every last thing into politics, all that is left is the calculus of power. In every generation, those with wealth and power have always wanted to "cash in" on it. It's the socio-political equivalent of an ambush. Strike while the iron is hot. Attack while you still have the high ground. Cash out before the market crashes. And this time, they have really gone all-in. They have cosmically miscalculated their "advantage".
