Question regarding out of state volunteering/housing

Hey guys,

I'm in a bit of a stressful situation right now. In early June, I'd talked to some people (both online and on the phone) about coming to volunteer from out of state. This was when the "liberty house" idea was very active and looked like it was definitely going to happen. Someone who was a huge player in coordinating said liberty house said that if I was able to find cheap/discounted tickets to come to Iowa, I should do so, so I went for it and I'm scheduled to be there Aug 3 to 15.

Then the person who I'd been talking to about the liberty house stuff (grassroots person from Iowa) said things fell through on his end --so I called the official campaign director, who said if I come up there, they'd have plenty of stuff for me to do. The only issue is the housing.

If I don't find a reliable solution/place to stay I'm going to have to cancel my ticket, but I'm just wondering if there are any alternatives. Does anyone know of any other "liberty house" plans going on with out of staters, or any plans to rent an extended group stay type of deal? (I can't afford a $50+/night hotel for each night i'm there).Or anyone who's a youngish grassroots campaign person who wouldn't mind me staying at their place in a sleeping bag if I paid them $$$ for lodging?

Or should I just cancel?

I'm just trying to figure out what to do....

nvm I think I'm probably going to cancel in the next few days unless something comes up as a reliable solution. I'll campaign in other ways :)

Why did Liberty House fall apart? Was it because the official campaign did not want out of staters? Or some other reason?

I would hope that the grassroots would snap into position as an organization that supports the campaign. If the official campaign needs housing, the grassroots gets it for them, freeing up their resources for things that campaigns typically do - like make TV commercials, do phone calling, etc. But some want to do the exact thing as the campaign.

As Mallory said, if people want to come to ames and help the campaign a week or two before the straw poll, there will be things for them to do, mostly making calls to targeted lists.
