Q2 2008 Totals (Perspective)

I missed both of the events you mentioned. I guess I'm still reeling from 2008. And you're right, maybe I won't ever see what I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, comments like these only serve to alienate people like me who are on the margin.

What I'm trying to say is, you're likely not going to make a difference just by yourself. Even if you donated the max amount, it's not like it's going to decide the election. However, if many people do the same or even just give a little, they can be part of an effort to help. If you get enough people feeling disenchanted, although they are there in spirit, they absolutely can hurt the campaign and RP's chances. I honestly just can't fathom why anyone would want to be part of the "disenchanted" group instead of giving it all you have just to see what good comes of it. I also can't fathom why people would be so hesitant about believing he's in it to win it. What could you possibly see that would convince you otherwise? To me, it would be just silly to think you should be assured a win before you even participate. That's the kind of thinking people have when they don't vote for RP because "he doesn't have a chance." If you need some kind of personal sign of it despite several campaign actions that point that way, then how would you ever be convinced? I say enough hesitation and just go for it because you don't know if you're going to win either way, but why not try to make a difference at least?

Aside from that, the campaign has showed many signs that it is committed this time around. That's what I mean when I say, what could you possibly see that could convince you? The campaign has made great strides and hired some top-notch people. If you aren't convinced by any of this, then you are looking for something that you're just not going to get. To me, it's just asking way too much and, I'm sorry to say it, but it seems a bit selfish to me. I'm not accusing anyone. I'm just telling you how I feel about that approach. It doesn't seem based in reality.

Early 2011 numbers. Feel free to add to OP

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-01/mitt-romney-raises-up-to-20-million.html

Romney - 15-20 Million  But I thought a lot of this was pledged, not actual donations. Mostly from Bankers and Wallstreet fat cats. (for perspective, he raised 60 Million in the 07/08 campaign and loaned it another 45 Million that presumably he lost)

Paul 4.5+ Million Small individual dononations

Pawlenty - 4.2 Million

Huntsman 4.1 Million, however somewhat less than half is from his own pocket

Bachman - not reporting but had 3.9 Million in campaign account as of March 31

Gingrich - not reporting - but lost his 2 top fundraising aids June 21, also reports that the campaign is in debt.

Santorum - - not reporting

Cain - 2.46-2.48 Million, 27,000 individual Donors, most $100 or less. Contributed some of his own money but much less than Huntsman's 2 Million. A bunch of his staff just quit - IA and NH.

Obama - not reporting but they said they had 500,000 donors by June 30th '11, at the end of Q2 in '07 he had 258,000 donors. Where is this support coming from? I'm guessing it's that massive phone banking effort he rolled out and unions. We should be rolling out phone banks nationally.

What is going on with fundraising? Obama held a $35,800 per plate fundraiser this month for wall street bankers - but the max individual donation is supposed to be $2,300, then Romney just jetted off to London to do a fundraiser, but non-US citizens are supposed to be barred from donation to US elections. Then I heard that last election Clinton got a TON of money from the Chinese government... WTF???

Official disclosures are due to the FEC July 15th

-t

addendum: The article didn't mention Johnson, but he sent out a e-mail yesterday that didn't report anything, but did ask for donations.

Thanks. I actually did see the first one and was impressed. Yes I admit that I am honestly not caring at all. Who's fault is that? Is it Ron Paul's? Probably not him personally no, but as you said I am disillusioned. I was let down last time. Spent months and months of my time and lots of money to be disappointed on a level I had no idea was possible. Perhaps it is my own fault for having such high expectations. I just think the crew running the campaign last time were amateurs. I have no idea who he even has this time around, but I hope very few of them are the same from last time.

I think he does have a better chance this time around. More people are waking up and democrats are also disillusioned with their own party. That could be very good for RP.

I'm not missing out on anything though. I'm not sitting around watching YouTube clips... Um that sounds like a good situation this time. All of this doesn't matter because of vote fraud. There will be questionable things happen and if it's like last time, his campaign will lie down and take it.

I may get a RP sign and put it outside in my yard. Is that good enough for you? lol

He has been fighting. People who aren't watching because they are disillusioned are missing out.

At least you're honest about it. Those who try to pin it on Paul and say they "just don't see it." Need to be a little more honest with themselves like you and just admit they don't feel like putting in the effort. +rep to ya.

i know! i am very optimistic and i believe anyone who is a part of this forum or this movement is to a degree a de facto optimist :) god bless ron paul. he is my gold standard to which i will compare every politician for the rest of my life. his voting record and personal life provide such a great example of virtue, excellence, courage, integrity, and honesty. a true role model if there ever was any

Why don' you make your comment more concrete? Name specific behaviors or actions that need to be taken in order to win you over. IF Paul in his heart doesn't want to win, well, what can you do?.

Well, I had a big "moment" today, with RP's announcement that he won't seek reelection for his seat in Congress. Now I believe that he's really "all-in" for the run for president.

Next step: does he really think he can win? I'm still on the fence, but I'm much closer now than I was before the announcement.

^This. Last run he used his seat in the House as a fall back many times. He said it in interviews a few times and even said he would never consider a 3rd party run because he would lose his seat. When I saw the announcement he won't be seeking reelection on his FB page, I was overjoyed...This action tells me he actually does mean business this time! I think those that were on the fence are probably highly motivated by this announcement. I know I am! :)
