President Trump Addresses Nation After Striking Iran’s Nuclear Sites

Yea I don't really have sympathy for ghadafi I'm not really concerned about it.

But I'm glad he doesn't have nukes either
My sympathy is with the Lybian people who now have to deal with a failed state. My sympathy is also with my own gas tank.

If they stubbornly decide to continue pursuing nukes that is their right to do so. But they do so at their own risk and I will not have a lot of sympathy for them.

Tigran Meloyan: The bigger question now is whether Iran will even consider returning to talks with Washington after this attack. Why negotiate when American promises no longer mean anything? Tehran urgently needs a mediator who can restrain Trump from further escalation – and right now, the only credible candidate is Moscow. Iran’s foreign minister, [Abbas] Araghchi, is set to meet with President Putin on June 23. It’s hard to imagine that a potential NPT withdrawal won’t be on the table. If in the past an Iranian bomb was considered an existential threat to Israel, the calculus has now reversed: for Iran, nuclear capability is quickly becoming a question of survival.

We're shooting ourselves in the foot for Israel.

North Korea was part of the Soviet Empire.

We intervened in the Korean war when Stalin ordered North Korea and armed them to invade South Korea.
Irrelevant to the entire discussion. The U.S. didn't use nukes in the Korean war even though McAuthur wanted to because that would have risked nuclear war with China. And the U.S. has not bombed North Korea since North Korea got nukes because that would have risked nuclear war with North Korea. The easiest way to get the U.S. to back off of you? Have a nuke.

Its not irrelevant we waged a cold war against the Soviet Empire from 1945 to 1990.

It's irrelevant because your claim that we bombed North Korea after they got a nuke has been proven to be a total lie. And now having lost on that point you're moving to the next irrelevant point.

Anybody know any relevant source for how many Iranians were killed during this strike?

Some of my Trump friends are justifying it because no people we’re killed just infrastructure.
🙄

We were in a cold war with the Soviet Empire.

Bombing wasnt allowed.

That was the ceasefire agreement we made with China and it was necessary to open up relations with China so we could isolate the Soviet Empire and collapse it.

They told them to leave Tehran and to surrender.

Its not like we should let them nuke us because they wont listen.

If they tried to drop the bomb on you and they were riding it like a horse you would shoot it down right?

No, sorry. I think I saw Tehran say it saw this coming and evacuated all three sites of personnel and radioactive material. So I recommend a different line of attack.

Like the conversation we've been having this morning -- we're forcing Iran to get nukes because countries with nukes are the only ones we respect.

We stand up to any country that threatens us. It has nothing to do with nukes.

Otherwise China and Russia could just do whatever they want because they have them.

Russia thought they could and that was a mistake.

In international relations there is one axiom that hasn’t been disproven yet and it s Nuclear deterrence theory.

Rational deterrence theory this were explicitly understood together by most making policy from Ike to Reagan.

It holds that the threat of nuclear retaliation prevents enemies from attacking, as cost outweighs potential gain.

So you’re talking out your ass

Nuclear weapons didnt stop the Soviet Union from attacking us in Vietnam because they were an unofficial party in that war.

They operated surface to air missles and shot our aircraft down.

The act of a massive retaliation to deter war existed prior to nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons in fact don't entirely deter war.

The massive cold war era stockpiles of weapons prove that. Those are the weapons that you see in the Ukraine war.

If Nuclear weapons were all you needed simply all of those weapons wouldn't exist.

Why "unofficial"?

Answer: Nuclear deterrence. Congratulations, you disproved your point again.
Cold war doctrine predates Russia having nuclear weapons.

It began in '45 when the front lines froze.

The idea was that "uncle joe" helped us win world war 2. So many Americans did not consider them as enemies.

Many Russian expats and communist sympathizers lived in the United States during the 60s and 70s especially.

So we didnt "officially" announce it to the public.

The government doesn't always tell us the truth about wars.

There were things classified in the Korean war that only came out 40 years later.

Ya don't say???
Fog of war helps in our open society.

It means you dont have to put Japanese and Italian and German people in camps because they might not be a sleeper cell.

Modern law enforcement might be able to defend against that better but I liked having a fourth amendment.

I think there is a chance Russia, Pakistan or China will give or station nukes in Iran.
