I just learned via Facebook -- a friend, who will remain anonymous just for privacy reasons, was just pulled over for a significant speeding violation, not typically within the realm of officer discretion. The officer made a point to let her know that she was being let go without a ticket because he noticed her Ron Paul sticker.

That's cool.

So there, to those who say there are no good police.

I was in a car accident with a car that bounced off the median at me at a 90 degree angle, just ahead of me but too close to stop before I got to where it slammed into me, and another car hitting me from behind. I think it pretty clearly wasn't my fault (and despite a suit by the passenger of one of the people that was how it turned out in court) but at the time the CHP were very noncommital. One asked if I had taken my keys out of the car or something, I forget what, and I started to go back to the car to get them. He said, 'Oh, I'll get them for you!' and I said 'thanks', pleased. (only later realizing I'd just given him the ok to get into my car, but it isn't like there was any reason not to, beyond principle.)

So he came back with my Ron Paul magnet in his hand, that had come off the back of my car, and I had tossed it in the car. He raised an eyebrow and looked at his partner and they both became VERY positive, helpful, friendly etc., letting me go earlier than the others, too. One let me know that the reason the car had come at me was because it had bounced off the median (I hadn't seen that part), saying he had seen where it struck the cement. It was clear the bumper sticker had made me 'one of them.'

We're everywhere, Bwa Ha Ha!!

Sigh. Did either of the cops in either of your scenarios ever bust anyone for dope? I mean it is great that they had an attachment to RP and thus you. Does that make selective enforcement right? What if a cop let someone with an Obama sticker off of a charge? I'm sorry. Both these accounts further convince me that there are no good cops. Only those that are petty tyrants that enforce laws as their personal views dictate.

That is until they track her for the next month and take her down on some big charges. Just kidding, good to hear and kudos to the officer!

No. Not kudos to an officer. It is as reprehensible to me if I am let off because of my political views as it is if I am arrested for them. It still places me in a position to being subservient to an individual based on their personal whims.

Getting favorable government treatment because of one's political views is not a position I am willing to endorse in any way.

This is a nice story, wish it would have happened for me!
But I'd bet a chicken dinner that your friend is attractive in addition to have a Ron Paul sticker ...

(rock and a hard place ... for you ... you really going to say she is unattractive on an open forum that comes up in google results? Just a small rotisserie chicken will be fine. Thanks!)

I definitely hear where you two are coming from, but would you really say that to the officer if you were pulled over for speeding? The system is corrupt, I would take this freebee and continue on. Maybe the cop is one of us and is trying to change the system from within (ha good luck)?

they weren't being rude to me previously, just professional. I think few have jobs with nothing against our principles anywhere in them unless they work for themselves, however, police can both act more dramatically for AND against. I want more good police; I'm not going to condemn people for becoming an officer unless their own actions support that. I do agree it can TEND to pull some personalities that aren't savory, due to the power.
