Peter Schiff talks about how he plans to revolutionize campaigning

I'm kind of skeptical about how effective a mass calling campaign will be for Peter. I know that it will help get him name recognition but other than that it could annoy people. I get random survey type calls all the time on my home and cell phone. People have also knocked on my door to promote a particular candidate for the city or state. That shit pisses me the fuck off to no end.

My suggestion would be to gain name recognition first and save the calling campaign for later. That way, people will know his name and are less likely to hang up or think he is a phony candidate. He needs to just get out there to the republican or political conventions and stop blowing them off, regardless of prior commitments for investor conferences, particularly if they are out of state. I would rather see articles about Peter wowwing the audience during a speech than reading something about his massive calling campaign to persuade voters.

My opinion.

A few weeks?

He is going to start campaigning in a few weeks? Has this guy noticed that his opponents, who are more well known in the state and have the ability to self-fund, have been campaigning for more than a month?

Peter keeps whining about how it he is giving up his leisure time: we should all feel really sorry for this millionaire not having enough leisure time. Just like the video he did on the beach in Hawaii, a state that average people can't even afford to go to, he acts like he is sacrificing but he won't even get up and start campaigning. Ridiculous.

The liberty movement will go nowhere with horrible candidates like this. Peter has good ideals, but he is a horrible candidate. As much as we all hate the "game" of politics, the fact of the matter is that we are going to have to play that game to win elections because the game has been going on long before the present liberty movement. Unless he gets off his ass and campaigns full time like he actually wants to win, I wouldn't give him a dime.

What a bunch of suckers all of us who donated to his campaign are. He sucked us in with that promise that he'd return the money if he didn't officially run. But he never promised that he'd actually take it seriously. Now we're out that money that we could have given to someone who would have actually put forth the effort needed to get the votes instead of running their whole campaign on youtube. I had a bad feeling about it when I noticed he was stringing us along and upping the goal of how much it would take to convince him to run. Unfortunately, since I donated back when the goal was just 750k, by the time he changed it to 1 mil, it was too late for me.

Jeez, give him some time. I'll wait to see what happens in a few weeks.

Wow.. this isn't the only thing he is doing, but it is a way for volunteers all across the country to help out with name recognition and soliciting donations. If you watched, he also plans to do direct mail, TV ads, billboards, etc. and will be hitting the campaign trail soon himself once he finishes off his obligations made months in advance.

You guys realize that the election is more than a year away, right?

He's not just planning a "mass calling campaign" as you suggest. It will obviously be far more comprehensive than that.

Getting phone calls can be annoying, but it's not something that will be looked down upon. People will not associate a candidate with the volunteers calling them - the most successful political campaigns in CT were also the ones with the most active volunteer base and word-of-mouth campaigns (think Jim Himes, not Joe Lieberman).

Again, he has over a year to get his name recognition up. I'm not sure why you developed such an angry response over something that will end up having zero effect on his candidacy whatsoever.

Why do you hate success so much? Peter is giving up the job he loves doing - that he has amassed a fortune through - to go to the senate. He is giving up a lot - clearly an amount that you don't possess the virtue to earn on your own (why else would you hate the people you're envious of?) - to represent the state of Connecticut. I think it's an extremely strategic move to paint the picture like he does - he is crafting his image as a poster boy of the private sector. Republicans in CT will go nuts for that. Our career politicians (Lieberman and Dodd) are both very unpopular in CT, and the ones with private sector experience (Himes, etc.) are much more popular. Peter is rich, but a large number of the Republican voters will be richer than him. This is Connecticut - Fairfield County (where he lives) is the richest county on the east coast, and the second richest in the entire country. Fortune 500 CEOs and other very powerful people represent the voters of Connecticut. Rich people don't turn off the citizens of Connecticut like so many of the monsters at the Ron Paul Forums like you and cheapseats seem to embody.

Don't call me a sucker - I've given the max to Peter, and I'd give more if I could. Do you actually think Peter wouldn't take this campaign seriously? Why would a person with so much to lose treat the campaign haphazardly? Peter has just as much to gain from winning the senate seat as any of us do, if not more. He wants to be able to invest in the US just like we want to. Just because he's a millionaire, smart, and successful, we need to hold him up to an impossibly unrealistic standard?

You'll all be taking back the things you said after the 2009 election season.

I understand not donating to him until he begins campaigning aggressively, but don't write him off just yet.
He has said he is going into full campaign mode shortly, so give him a chance and see what he does.

I agree. And I have to admit, I breathed a sigh of relief when I checked the primary date and realized it was so late. But I hope he understands how important all the serious grunt work that he needs to do is. He needs to get in front of small local county GOP groups and make sure they don't get a chance to be convinced by their leaders that the de facto candidate has already been determined. He needs to go all over CT, and spend lots of time doing things he will probably hate, like being in as many parades as he can be in. And I hope he has staff with decent campaign experience and who know the ins and outs of campaigning. I doubt that his brother does. He's starting out with a serious deficit in perceived electability that he needs to make up for. Here's to hoping he proves soon that he gets that.

Isn't the party nominating convention in June? Just because he has months doesn't mean he has months to spare.

They call it a race for a reason. His opponents are months ahead of him. Linda McMahon stepped down from a multi-million dollar publicly traded company (that is bigger than Euro-Pacific) to campaign full time, while Schiff sits on the beach and whines about sacrificing. If you think that won't effect his candidacy then I would put the value of your opinion right around zero.

He is giving up a lot - clearly an amount that you don't possess the virtue to earn on your own (why else would you hate the people you're envious of?)

I have neither hatred nor envy, those are your words. He hasn't given up anything, nothing. He is sitting on the beach and asking people who live in Iowa and only make in one year what he makes in a day to give him money. His "virtue" may earn him money, but it won't get him to the Senate.

You also think that letting you opponent start a race months before you is a good idea, so I'm not giving this one much weight either. Republicans are 22% of registered voters in CT; Dodd may be unpopular, but 22% is nothing for an incumbent to bring in. Peter isn't asking wealthy CT residents to donate and sacrifice, he is asking liberty supporters all over the country to: and that is the problem. Ron Paul supporters in Iowa or Hawaii can't vote for him, only people in CT can, but he hasn't asked any of them for their votes. He hasn't even been in CT most of the time. The other candidates are in the infield playing the game, and he hasn't even left to come to the stadium. He is so arrogant he thinks he doesn't have to.

Oh, I forgot, EVERYONE in Connecticut is a rich Republican. This should be a shoe-in then. How monstrous of me...

Why would a person with so much to lose treat the campaign haphazardly?

My question exactly, my question exactly.

I would love to see Schiff in the Senate because he is a defender of liberty, but with the way he is conducing this, he has no chance. If we support people who are politically ineffective just because we like their speeches, then we are no better than party line Democrats and Republicans who support candidates because of the letter by their name.

for fucks sake.. let him START first.. then you can bitch about it..

LOL! Schiff didn't start campaigning yet, but he's bad at campaigning? Gimme a break people. Ask yourself when the Kentucky primary is and then compare that to when Rand started.

He just told this room full of investors he's going to run for the Senate in his spare time.

To address these points, the word is that he has several events planned now that his prior obligations are over with including visiting the local republican town councils. As he mentioned in the video, he is finishing up his process of hiring people for his campaign and getting the offices all set, in addition to his database for volunteers. I recall at least one of the people he hired had run a few CT races, but I don't remember his name. Not sure about who else he is hiring. As Kotin said, let's see what he does before bitchin'.

Hey MR. What's the ETA for website and campaign schedule, etc? Any info?
Don't know much besides the "next few weeks" unfortunately. The start of November seems to be when things are going to be kicking off.
