ST. CLOUD - Supporters of presidential hopeful Ron Paul picked up 12 of 13 national delegates chosen at this weekend's state Republican party convention. They will represent the state party in Tampa, FL at the Republican National Convention.

The audience of mostly Paul supporters erupted after they realized they nearly swept the slate. It means 32 of the 40 delegates heading to Tampa are confirmed supporters of Ron Paul. Another potential Paul delegate, Don Huizenga, dropped his bid after he didn't pick up the needed 50 percent. That means GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann, a one-time candidate for president, can be a delegate.

"We're very happy," said Pastor Kevin Erickson, a national delegate elected out of the 8th Congressional District. "From Minnesota, we'll cast 32 votes for Ron Paul. The rest, we'll see what happens."

The strength of Paul's supporters means several well known Republicans will not be headed to Tampa. They include former Congressman Mark Kennedy, state Rep. Keith Downey, Republican Party Treasurer Bron Scherer, Republican Party Deputy Party Chair Kelly Fenton and 6th District Republican Party Chair Jen Niska.

Holy crap, Minnesota!! That is incredible. *bow to the grassroots*

Bachmann...in the middle of the MN Delegation...surrounded by defenders of liberty.
This is just too good.

Maybe they can explain to her why the Patriot Act and indefinite detention without due process are bad things....

As much as I would have liked to see her ousted, this could be a good thing. We are BOUND (pun intended) to rub off on her :)

Kudos to all the MN members here who put forth some effort towards this achievement. Awesome.

Paul supporters have said repeatedly that they are likely to back presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney in November

Just got back from this and all I can say is RP people are now in control of MN GOP.

Started yesterday when the old guard GOPers tried to get Dan Severson endorsed. We got 53% of the first vote for our guy Kurt Bills and Severson got 23% (we needed 60%) We went to a second round of voting and we then got enough to get Kurt Bills endorsed by GOP.

Today we voted on 13 delegates and 13 alternates. We could have taken all 13 delegates and denied Michelle Bachmann a spot. One of our delegates gave up his spot for Michelle. i had mixed feelings at first and thought we should have just taken hers too. It was a gesture of good will and i think it may help some of the rest of them accept us more. They now know if you want to get ahead in MN You had better be a Ron Paul republican or we won't vote for you.

We have 7 of the board of directors of MN GOP as Paul supporters..

They tried to beat us with a Romney "Unity Slate" - it did not work..

They now know that resistance is futile.............

It was a good gesture on the part of the delegate to cede his spot. Last time she didn't show up. The alternate will likely be a Paul supporter. I met so many great people this weekend. The amount of influence we held. The numbers. Tears to my eyes. I'm a grown man and I get emotional over this. lol More work to be done. This can be done people. We're winning.

Donating to Bachmann a seat to Tampa strategically located in the middle of all the Ron Paul people is a gesture of goodwill. It should be clear that she didn't win it, we gave it to her. if we did the 2nd round of balloting, our guy would get it.
