America runs on lies today, much like cars run on gasoline. Obama is no exception to that rule.
Take the "War on Terror." It's predicated on a massive lie that almost never goes challenged in the mainstream media. There is NO significant terrorist threat to people living on US soil. Terrorism wasn't even a significant threat in 2001. An American's chances of being killed by a terrorist that year turned out to be about 1 in 100,000 (nearly all in the WTC, of course). An American's chances of being killed by cancer alone that year was about 1 in 600, which is about 167 times greater odds. And then there are other diseases, auto accidents, workplace accidents, common criminals, etc. So which should we spend more time worrying about?
Even if someone managed to sneak a nuke into a US city and set it off -- a VERY unlikely scenario -- it would not kill nearly as many people as are killed each year by those mundane causes. It sure as hell would not destroy the country (tiny Japan survived two nuclear attacks). Yet Obama and nearly all other government officials continue to play up the "terror threat" as if were as dire as yesterday's threat of nuclear war with the USSR.
The question is, why can't more Americans figure these things out for themselves? The math isn't rocket science. I suspect a lot of people like the idea of having some threat to America that we all need to heroically stand together and face. Such people are suckers for patriotard propaganda.
The only politician I've heard openly call bullshit on the "War on Terror" is -- you guessed it -- Ron Paul. He referred to it as "manufactured crisis" on a TV interview once and added some remarks along the lines of those above. I hope to see his honesty become contagious, but I won't hold my breath.
