DES MOINES — When Ron Paul ran for president in 2008 and 2012, his rallies were decidedly unpretentious affairs, appropriately suited to the scrappy outsider nature of his campaign.

His son is trying things a little differently.

Senator Rand Paul, eager to shake off a bruising week, came to Iowa over the weekend for a test run of his increasingly likely bid for the Republican nomination in 2016. First, he met privately with the chairman of the state Republican Party. Then he headlined an “Audit the Fed” event at a stylish wine bar and vineyard just outside downtown.

“I didn’t know Iowa had a winery,” Mr. Paul, of Kentucky, would later say.

The comments are pretty harsh here is an example:

Mr. Paul is such a conflicted, albeit interesting, individual and politician because the very core of his political philosophy is the antithesis and rejection of governance. I love watching him try to hammer his square Libertarian peg into the round hole of reality. The rejection of all things connected with collectivism, whether it be social security, medicare, or civil rights, undermines his ability to govern in a multicultural, pluralistic society. Maybe a homestead in the wilds of Alaska would be more suitable for his governing philosophy.

It's the NY Times.

"And there are his most ardent libertarian fans who are no doubt more comfortable with the Busch-Light-and-blue-jeans sensibilities of the Ron Paul movement."

Busch-Light?

Title doesn't match article. Hatchet job. I sincerely doubt any Ron Paul supporters, or Ron Paul himself, are "sorry" that Rand has a fundraiser at an Iowa winery.

I almost quoted that part too. Huh?
sen·si·bil·i·ty
1. The ability to perceive stimuli: lost sensibility in a toe.
2. often sensibilities
a. Mental or emotional responsiveness, especially in being offended or in having one's feelings hurt: "The earthy humor of many of the ballads deeply offended her sensibilities" (Anne Stott).

b. The capacity to respond intelligently to refined emotions, especially in art: "They celebrated deeds that fit stereotyped images of noble valor, making the writing flat and tedious to modern sensibilities" (David A. Bell).
The author is saying we have no taste and are mundane. Either he has never hung out with many ron paul people or it was just a lame insult.

Translation for the less erudite:
"ME WANT AUTHORITARIANISM"

Yep, exactly. It has an agenda to try and create a wedge.

I just read this article in the hard copy NYT. Now I am convinced Rand Paul will win the GOP nomination.

Didn't seem incredibly negative, it just cast a light on some of the 'political junkie' history that he uniquely has to contend with.

Although I agree, WTF was up with Busch-Light?

Could be worse. They could have said you all smoke pot and run around naked.
