Editorial: Forget about old writings

If Congressman Peter DeFazio’s latest campaign action is any indication, we are in for another attempt, as in 2010, to lambaste Art Robinson for things he wrote years ago in his newsletter. That’s to be expected in politics, but it is also a poor substitute for discussing how to address the problems of the United States.
DeFazio issued a press release about a web video his campaign put out. The gist of it is that Robinson is being dishonest by not writing now — in his 400-plus-page campaign book — the same things he wrote in his newsletter before.
First, people have the right to change their minds. But mainly, the job of a polemicist is different from that of someone aspiring to, or holding, a high public office.
