New Law Mandates Interlocks on All New Cars, but Drunk Driving Tech Isn’t Ready Yet

The law says new cars will need to be equipped with some kind of anti-drunk driving device in 3 years, but no one knows what that could be.

Buried deep on Page 135 of a $1 trillion spending bill that mainly adds EV charging infrastructure is a small provision that could make a big deal for automakers. Passed last year, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act asks that within three years, new cars would be equipped with drunk-driving deterrents automakers don’t yet know how to comply with.

This has been one of those things that's floated around for a while now. It's coming and no one is doing anything to stop it.

15 minute cities (with their gates and all!) are coming right around the corner.

Just like lawsuits cannot be filed until after new laws go into effect, government should not be permitted to create laws concerning non-existing technology or products, what is next, making it a felony to travel back in time to alter history? Our government is out of control and far past being ridiculous!

Besides that things such as this are just going to get people to invent aftermarket bypass devices for those who want to drink and drive. It only be a costly nuisance to the majority of law abiding drivers. All this computer crap in new cars, are pricey to repair, and many features will either prevent the vehicle from operating until repaired or from passing smog requirements, etc.

Its not about stopping drunks from driving, its about stopping Republicans or ANYONE who has a political opinion that differs from the Regime in Power from driving. Obey or we will turn off your toys.
