First time that I've seen a campaign ad blocked on copyright grounds.

I think we need to start a Twitter, Facebook, Email, phone call, snail mail, etc. Campaign to explain Fair Use to NBC. To be fair I really do think if it's their video they can do this, but we all suspect they are singling out one candidate and, while they being a private company have every right to be biased, we have just as much right to disagree and tell them why. We should be publicly asking them if they will be doing the same to each candidate or if they intend to play favorites.

Of course they intend to play favorites. They're owned by defense contractor General Electric. But of course we should explaing Fair Use to them. We should all screenshot that and raise a stink. We can make NBC regret this.

Is the clip in question of Bill Clinton? Because there's a CSPAN clip of the same thing on YouTube. It would be even better if CSPAN, considering their original mission statement, did the same thing to us.

You don't watch a ton of political ads, do you?

Carly Fiorina’s nascent presidential campaign is running into more trouble on the Internet.

Hours after the former Hewlett-Packard CEO appeared on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers," the network blocked her campaign’s attempt to post a clip from the show on YouTube.

“This video contains content from NBC Universal, who has blocked it on copyright grounds,” an error message on the clip said on Wednesday morning.

For the record - that's not a campaign youtube channel or a video that was ever uploaded by the campaign youtube channel. Although the person running the channel does re-upload a lot of videos from the official campaign channel, which I'm not sure is a great idea because that dilutes the view counts and search rankings of the official campaign videos.

So that wasn't an official campaign video? Good to hear.

Rand's campaign has uploaded interviews including commercials with copyrighted content before, which was kind of boneheaded, but this one was not his fault as it's not an official channel

They were bought out by Comcast a few years back.

If using news clips of a candidate for a Presidential campaign is not "fair use" then there is no such thing as fair use. So far as I know, the law explicitly permits political videos under fair use. Wonder if NBC and YouTUBE risk litigation exposure by the takedown req and the subsequent block?

Youtube pretty much as a "take down first, ask questions later" policy where you are guilty of copyright infringement until you challenge the take down request

Probably automated, if it contained a song, definitely automated.
