Refer to the bold in Saul's email. They didn't like us Ron Paul people too much and mind you, we were very cordial.

Michigan Republican’s State Convention
What an exciting weekend as Michigan Republicans nominated our slate of candidates for various university, education boards and the State Supreme Court.

I was really proud of my good friend Dr. Michael Busuito who was nominated for the Wayne State Board of Governors and was disappointed to see Nancy Danhof not re-nominated for another term on the State Board of Education after her exemplary service.

Gamesmanship on the floor of the convention continues…I particularly loved the piece that “demonized” that Saul Anuzis fellow-

However, thousands of Republicans gathered from around the state ready for November’s election. Overall, the mood could not have been better, no disruptions, minimal confusion and a motivated party committed to winning this fall.

I was disappointed that there still appears to be a small group of “activists” who want to “take over” the party and require some form of “purity” for candidates to get our party’s support. Sorry guys, that’s not the way to win elections...we all need to talk…we all need to work together.

Congratulations to MIGOP Chairman Bobby Schostak and his team for putting together and running a smooth and exciting convention. The facility was well organized, voting went smoothly and there was lots of space to campaign and meet with friends and other delegates.

After talking with many establishments, a few were saying "Yeah, I wasn't happy with McCain, but I still voted for him... I am not too happy with Romney, but we as republicans have to show unity and so I am going to vote for him..."

Listening to that a number of times over in my discussions, because they came up to me asking me why I support Ron Paul, and what are you "Ron Paul People" going to do now that your guy lost? So I would bring up Dr. Paul's voting record, how Romney supported TARP, NDAA, Patriot Act, etc. and how the Ron Paul delegates were treated in Tampa. Many surprisingly were saying, yeah I know he supports that, and yeah you guys were not treated fairly, but we have to put that behind us and show some unity for Romney and Ryan.

...Really! I mean are these people that high up that stupid as to most of their only defense was "well, we need Obama out of office." I even had one guy tell me the line (not joking) "If you don't vote for the lesser of two evils, you'll end up with evil..." WTF is that mentality? Really?

So I told that guy, I am not voting for Romney and will either write Ron Paul in or vote Gary Johnson because I cannot just hold my nose and vote the party line and then be able to sleep at night.

Further more, we had some of our alternate delegates moved up as delegates because the "establishment" delegates didn't show up on time, but then our alternate delegates (that became delegates) were not allowed to vote and the late delegates were.

After my first experience at a State Convention, I am at a loss. Many establishment were telling me that I have to fullfill my job as a delegate and start working at a call center for Romney, because my job is not just to vote, but to get our guys in (our guys meaning the GOP establishment). I just nodded my head at him and then told him no, I can't work for I guy I do not support.

Another one was talking to me about Pete Hookstra and told me "Hey, I know you may not agree with him, but at least he will listen to you where Stabinow won't." Again, I said I will more than likely leave that part blank on my ballot and then listed to him all the reasons why I cannot vote for Hookstra.

I don't know, I am at a loss right now. after reading what Saul sent me, it makes me feel good because we really are then a threat to TPTB, and I like that. But at the same time, I feel that TPTB are really trying hard to stifle any and all grassroots that do not toe the party line. But my God, are these people so dumb that they couldn't give me any defense by citing any policy that Ryan or Romney stand for that could change my mind. Instead, many just used the answer, "well do you want another four years of Obama?"

I do commend Dr. Paul more for fighting 30+ years this fight, when it was hard for me to sit through 6 hours+ of it.

I kept on saying to myself that I am doing this for Ron Paul, I am doing this for Ron Paul. Slowly but surely, we are winning.

There, I am done venting.

"Sorry guys, but that's not going to win elections."

Says the old guard GOP, on the verge of losing another big election to a candidate that's as weak as Carter was. Sometimes, though, when your enemy is making mistakes, it's best just to be quiet and let them proceed.

I saw a recent poll number I think on Drudge, with Obama leading Romney by about 4% points. I LOLed, because the RNC/GOP is gonna hope the younger RP supporters stick around, because come election day, many of the older RNC/GOP members may be dying from shock.

And that was Rasmussen.

Ok Saul. Let's ask ourselves, how do establishment politicians benefit if everyone believes that message? OH I KNOW! They stay in power!

Cool! That Politico article backed up the cold conclusion I was reaching last night. We are already beginning the "Romney needs a good debate performance" byline.

Just say, sorry but I cannot endorse third world election fraud, which is exactly what I would be doing if I voted for Romney. Nobody has a response to that...

I can give you the typical non-thinking Republican vote response, "But he's better than NOBAMA! We can't afford another 4 years of NOBAMA!"

I will give the party credit on one level. They have been pretty successful in finding/grooming these various drones who are willing to hold party posts, and support the official dogma.

Yeah, they have a lot credibility there.

The GOP would not have won a presidential election since 1988 had it not been for voting shenanigans and 9/11.

What is spoken: "We have to unite and beat Obama..."

What is not: "... because if Romney loses, we're the fall guys"

I mean really. The GOP losing two national elections, may finally begin the process of self-inspection that the Demos went through in the 1980s.

Yep, they are indeed on the verge of losing another big election -- http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/80949.html

The Romney campaign, while pleasantly surprised by Obama’s lackluster prime-time performance, said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers — most glaringly in Ohio — are working in the president’s favor.

Seems like some Cincinnati voters are paying attention to their local news ;)

Again, it would have been 4 in row, had it not been for outright vote fraud and 9/11.

You'd think they would have gotten the hint by now, Pat Buchanan was beating them about the head and upper body with many of the same issues we're on about, and what did they do?

Dole and Bush.

From the OP:

They also see eye-to-eye on their belief the election will come down to whether Romney can persuade voters he understands the problems of ordinary people and that his solutions are at least marginally better for turning things around economically.

There's that word again.

This may come down to one of the most pointless selections in US history.

And I think regular folk may finally be starting to understand that all the rest of this is just re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

First of all, no one gives a rolling donut what Saul thinks. And, there was nothing of note at the convention for any of the "small group of activists" to tinker with unless he's referring to the passing out of the RNC shenanigans sheets. That said, this group of activists is hardly small when he got his ass handed to him back in May and denied the Nat'l committeeman position 70-30%, that's an embarrassment of epic proportions considering he was a former state chair. Plus, that race showed that the conservative grassroots base of the party was 2:1 and that's before the seating of the new precinct delegates. Also, many of the veteran delegates on our side sat home this time so the noobs could attend and see what it's like. Come our next county conventions, we're gonna stack our state delegations with an overwhelming coalition of liberty conservatives and others that will completely reshape the party leadership going forward. We'll see what Saul's emails look like then.

The GOP spin machine is already spinning losing as winning. See the top headlines for Drudge right now:

FLASHBACK: CARTER +4 OVER REAGAN IN SEPT 1980 [+8 IN OCT]...
FLASHBACK: DUKAKIS +17 OVER BUSH AFTER DNC 1988...

Yep... it's good that Romney is behind, because that's how you win.

Derp.

I think the Internet is changing the very rationale of political parties - much the way it had changed shopping, airline and hotel reservations, mapping, etc.

The basic function of a political party is get-out-the-vote. But large numbers of people born after 1970 have grown up with the Internet (or its predecessors: AOL, FidoNet, etc) These are much more self reliant and independent-minded people. They don't need to be badgered and reminded, like previous generations, to go vote and who to choose.

There will continue to be value in door to door campaigning. It impresses folks more than e-mail and tweets do. But the inherent value of what the old guard does every season, is being watered down.

It scares anyone, to think their job is becoming obsolete! And in a way, it's not surprising to see them fight so hard to hang on to what they have.
