$4.9 million: The estimated worth of the 18 cars seized at Dotcom’s estate. The haul-away included 15 Mercedes-Benzes, a pink 1959 Cadillac, and a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe worth more than $400,000. His license plates told a tale of pompousness, reading KIMCOM, HACKER, STONED, GUILTY, MAFIA, GOD and POLICE.

$24 million: The price tag (in USD) on the 25,000-square-foot sprawling mansion Dotcom leases in Coatesville, New Zealand, 15 miles northwest of Auckland. Costing $30 million New Zealand Dollars, it’s one of the most expensive properties in the country.

Fox News has joined the party too
The colorful founder of Megaupload -- a former hacker with a fleet of luxury cars, a multimillion-dollar mansion, and a cadre of celebrity pals -- denied charges of Internet piracy in a New Zealand court Monday.

The 37-year-old was born Kim Schmitz, but legally changed his name to Dotcom as an homage to the business that made him big bucks. He faces extradition to the U.S. after an FBI investigation charged him on Friday, Jan. 19, with running a massive online piracy ring on his ultrapopular file-sharing site megaupload.com. He was arrested Thursday at his birthday celebration inside a 25,000-square-foot mansion in Auckland.

You'd think this guy was stealing tax payer money or something.

Just didn't "BUY" the right politicians and it's obvious the US government did "BUY" the right New Zealand politicians.

Their money was earned from advertisers on the websites.

AnyHoo, Where do you think Main Stream Media gets it's revenue from? Advertisers, and who has been advertising on all their channels the past few weeks non stop?

SOPA, PIPA, DMCA, ASCAP...

Arrested at his birthday party? Wtf is wrong with police these days? They couldn't have waited one day?

Oh, please. Who cares about someone else's lavish lifestyle? I bet everyone working for the MSM is a whole lot richer than me and I don't gripe about their lavish lifestyles. I gripe about their lies.

obviously, different advertisers.

how else are you supposed to live if you make $40M a year???

Exactly. If the money was justly acquired, then I don't see a problem with living lavishly. Megaupload was a damn good file locker, and it is one of the few sites with reasonable upload times that I could use to send people files too large for email attachments. No other site comes close, and because of that, I don't doubt he made quite a bit of money providing that service.

You should obviously give it all to the government so they can spread your wealth around and give you what they see fit, if any.

$24million-dollar estates are bad, but Newt and Romney's $40BILLION dollar war contracts are ok!

I don't agree with what Tim Dotcom did with his advertising because his ads consisted of partypoker and various other malicious websites which scammed users of their credit card information and infected users with malware !

However, I oppose the way the U.S. government managed MegaUpload even more. The U.S. government has ties to CNN, which advertises MaxMySpeed, MyCleanPC, and various other malicious websites as well, which damage computers, and steal user credit card information. Not to mention the U.S. government is basically a mafia of crooks.

I believe Tim Dotcom should pay for his crimes just like any other individual. However, considering he was arrested by just another gang of criminals, I do not believe his arrest or the FBI's handling of the case was just, nor' fair.

Partypoker.com is a malicious web site? That's news to me. They're owned by bwin which is the worlds largest betting company, hardly what I'd call a malicious or scamming company.

Party poker spreads malware and bypasses adblockers.

Check it out on Web of Trust.

Not to mention before he changed his name, he was apparently involved with Fraud:

Slightly offtopic, but even arrested, I'm lulzing how Tim Dotcom is still the top in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Love him or hate him, just make sure you spell his name correctly!

He has a legacy on the internet, and criminal or not, I love him for it.

Thing is, for the American government to take down MegaUpload and to steal its user information is even worse than anything Kim Dotcom did!

Like I said: I don't agree with what Kim Dotcom did. But MegaUpload did not deserve to be shut down the way it did! Whatever happened to the saying "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty", and other similar sayings?

Look, MegaUpload had a lot of crap messed up with it. Once you disable Adblockplus, NoScript, and whatever Firefox Add-on, you realize how dangerous the site can be. I'll admit I've used it, but I've only used it under those precautions. Imagine what it's like for the average user?

However, I don't believe he is having a fair trial either. I mean, they stole all his assets, so he can't even hire a lawyer to defend himself! That's fucked up. I have to side with Kim for this case.

MegaUpload was taken down for the wrong, WROOOONG reasons, and what the U.S. government did is the equivalent the assassination of Anwar Awlaki! Being able to take down websites just like that for "copyright" is a very, very dangerous thing! If action is not taken now, the U.S. government will gain the power to shut down other websites by using MegaUpload as a precedence.

Don't get the wrong message. But before we defend him, we should at least know who we're defending, is all I'm trying to say.

so exactly how are they going to charge this guy with piracy?

Are they going to say that the owner knew his site did that, but did nothing to stop it?

What will be the defense of megaupload?

There is 1 truth, but 1000 lies.

The U.S. government will claim damages by repeating lies reworded one hundred times thanks to an army of lawyers, without proving anything relevant to their case.

All MegaUpload can claim is they removed copyrighted content when contacted to do so, and they cannot be held responsible for what users upload.

Because lies are more dynamic than truth, I am not too optimistic. Unless Anonymous steps in, the American dictatorship has bought this court case, rather than won it.

As someone trying to be as unbias as possible, I am pleading for Anonymous to step in and set things right, to at least give Kim Dotcom a fair court trial.

MegaUpload had its own fair share of problems, but this fiasco is an assault on filesharing in general, rather than a fair judgment against Kim Dotcom. He's being tried for the wrong reasons!

I want MegaUpload "fixed". Not removed!
