Taking a Swipe at Big Brother: Missouri voters say YES to Privacy

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., Aug. 5, 2014 – By a big margin at the polls on Tuesday, Missouri voters took an important step to protect their electronic communications and data from the prying eyes of state and local law enforcement, and also effectively blocked a small but intrusive practical effect of federal spying within the state.

Wtih a 75 percent YES vote, Missourians approved Amendment 9, giving “electronic data and communications” the same state constitutional protections as “persons, homes, papers and effects.” This eliminates any constitutional ambiguity surrounding electronic data and specifically bars state agencies from accessing it without a warrant in most cases.

The new amendment adds the italicized language to Section 15 of the Missouri Bill of rights.

Section 15. That the people shall be secure in their persons, papers, homes [and], effects, and electronic communications and data, from unreasonable searches and seizures; and no warrant to search any place, or seize any person or thing, or access electronic data or communication, shall issue without describing the place to be searched, or the person or thing to be seized, or the data or communication to be accessed, as nearly as may be; nor without probable cause, supported by written oath or affirmation.

Landslide Victory: First step to gun control nullification in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., August 5, 2014 – In a landslide today, Missouri voters took a powerful first step towards a nullification of gun control measures by approving a constitutional amendment “obligating” the state to defend the right to keep and bear arms against all infringements.

Amendment 5, originally introduced in the Missouri legislature as Senate Joint Resolution 36 (SJR36), was passed into the Missouri state constitution by a huge margin today. At the time of this report, the measure had a 64% approval.

The question posed to Missouri voters was: “Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to include a declaration that the right to keep and bear arms is a unalienable right and that the state government is obligated to uphold that right?”

As passed by voters, Amendment 5 now affirms that “the right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person, family and property, or when lawfully summoned in aid of the civil power, shall not be questioned. The rights guaranteed by this section shall be unalienable. The state of Missouri shall be obligated to uphold these rights and shall under no circumstances decline to protect against their infringement.” [emphasis added]

Missouri ‘right to farm’ proposal appears to pass

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A proposed constitutional amendment creating a right to farm in Missouri appears to have prevailed in a close election.

Proposed Constitutional Amendment 1 had 498,751 votes for it and 496,223 against it with all precincts reporting – a margin of less than three-tenths of a percentage point.

The amendment proposed to make farming an official constitutional right, similar to existing protections for the freedoms of speech and religion.

And last, but not least - Last night the St. Charles County Central Committee Chairman, Jon Bennett, was defeated in a landslide by Joe Wetter. Bennett was the chairman during the 2008 caucus where he was soundly defeated, but worked with other establishment hacks to make sure Ron Paul delegates were disenfranchised during the District and State Conventions. He was also one of the people responsible for the 2012 St. Charles County Caucus fiasco where they broke the rules and then called in the police state (see here www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM-K9PpMi2w).

Last Sunday, Bennett did a robo-call to everyone in the township saying that Joe was against the War on Drugs trying to make it sound like a bad thing. Shortly thereafter, Joe began receiving emails from people who heard the robo-call asking for yard signs because they heard he was against the War on Drugs! lol

The guy is so out of touch and he made a public statement recently saying how he doesn't get power from the Central Committe, but that he has power and that's why he is on the Central Committee - well not anymore. =)

Yeah, I voted against it. It passed by a little over 2K votes.

I recently saw a post on Facebook showing that although the ballot language said "citizens" the actual amendment said "ranchers and farmers." Shady
