Mitt Romney's Cash Problem

This is why it is critical we make Ron's fundraising shine during the next few weeks.

The former Massachusetts governor announced Monday night that he had raised roughly $6.4 million in January. More significantly, however, he reported having only $7.7 million cash on hand -- which means that over the course of 31 days, his campaign spent approximately $18.7 million.

This is a remarkable burn rate for a campaign that appeared to be a well-oiled machine not too long ago. Each day in January, Romney spent an average of $603,225 and raised just $206,451, meaning he was spending $397,000 more than he was taking in. If the campaign continued to spend at that rate unabated, it would have burned through the remaining $7.7 million on Feb. 19.

This is the time where we can capitalize on the advantage gained when the Official Campaign chose to bypass Florida. Let's make it count.

On a related note I just got this from the Official Campaign
Rand Paul e-mail said:
During Wednesday’s debate, Rick Santorum tried to explain away his vote for No Child Left Behind.

As he put it, he helped double the size of the Department of Education and vastly expand the federal government’s interference in our children’s lives because he was a “team player,” even though it supposedly went against what he claims he believed in.

The simple truth is, there are NO excuses for throwing your principles out the window and doing the wrong thing.

And I know the kind of "team pressure" Rick Santorum is talking about. This year, the House GOP passed a budget, full of gimmicks and out of balance as far as the eye could see. The vast majority of my colleagues held their nose and voted for it.

I voted a resounding "No." My dad did, too. If you aren't going to stand for principle, why did you run in the first place?

I’m proud of the consistent conservatism my dad will take to the White House as President.

No one else can lay claim to such a tremendous track record in defense of the Constitution.

But to win the nomination, he needs your help now more than ever.

Ten states are on the line on Super Tuesday – barely over a week away now.

Voters are searching for the right candidate to restore this nation’s prosperity and lead it boldly into the future, and the establishment is doing everything it can to make sure they think status-quo politicians like Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich are their only options.

My dad’s campaign is getting the truth out and changing minds, but they must have your immediate support if they are to implement their entire Get-Out-The-Vote strategy in several key states by March 6.

Please, click here right away to give whatever you are able toward my dad’s Final Push for Super Tuesday!

I wonder which 'team' Rick Santorum thinks he was playing for when he:

*** Voted to raise the debt ceiling five times;

*** Joined with senators like Barbara Boxer and Frank Lautenberg to pass massive new federal gun control schemes and regulations;

*** Helped keep forced dues flowing to Big Labor by voting to kill the National Right to Work bill;

*** Pitched in on creating a brand new, unfunded entitlement, Medicare Part D, the largest expansion of entitlement spending since President Lyndon Johnson - creating $16 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities;

*** Sent the American people’s hard-earned money straight to Planned Parenthood.

our country is in a desperate situation exactly because of Big Government, big spending politicians like Rick Santorum.

The LAST thing we need is another politician in the White House who admittedly puts political party above principle and political expediency ahead of their oath of office.

Our national debt is sky-rocketing. Spending is out of control. Families are crushed and dreams are fading under the weight of our struggling economy.

Ron Paul knows there is a better way.

Under his leadership, America’s faith in individual liberty, sound money, and constitutional government can be restored.

He can’t be accused of flip-flopping throughout his career, or playing games like Rick Santorum, because he hasn’t done it.

He’s fought back against the “go along to get along,” statist mentality that has brought our nation to its knees.

He’s never been afraid to stand up for the voters – even if it meant standing alone.

With your help, he’ll keep fighting that battle in the White House.

Your generous donation today toward my dad’s Final Push for Super Tuesday will help ensure he has every possible resource to win votes and secure critical delegate spots on March 6.

Ten states are on the line.

I hope my dad can count on you when he needs your support the most.

Please, donate whatever you are able today to my dad’s Final Push for Super Tuesday!

Help him demonstrate that America is ready for a President who will stand up for principle instead of caving in to political pressure.

For Liberty,

Rand Paul

P.S. Sorry, Senator Santorum, but there are no excuses for throwing your principles out the window and doing the wrong thing.

Unlike Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich, my dad can point to a lifetime of standing up for freedom and the Constitution, even when it meant standing alone.

But only your support today can help ensure my dad has every resource possible to reach the voters with the truth about his record and his serious solutions to our nation’s challenges.

Please, stand with Ron Paul at this most critical point in the campaign.

Just one report of him having to cut-back on something and the wind will vanish from his sails.

Now THIS could be big news. I also saw somewhere else that Romney has accepted he will not win the nomination outright and its going "all the way" to the convention.

I wonder if that's why CNN was calling him "The long distance runner" in their last debate (interesting when Willards intro steals from Pauls speeches :p )

Another reason why I think it's best for Santorum to win MI. Romney would lose some fundraising and all three candidates would be on equal ground (Newt will be done soon, mark my words. Super Tuesday will give way to Newtless Wednesday.)

"IF" we aren;t going to win MI or AZ, it's best if the two states get split. We want to spread it all around as much as possible. I think Ron Paul is acting more from his heart than his head in leaving Romney alone to run away with this contest. I think history will prove this move is wrong.

I agree with you on the one hand, but on the other, the campaign clearly has total confidence in being the "anti-Romney" strategy. I assume they have the polling and hard evidence to back it up, because I think we'll soon find out; Newt is pretty much done and Santorum is in a free fall. I am not sure reducing the amount of ways the pie can be split is a great idea, but they must be convinced Romney has a ceiling and that without the other guys in it, they're going to be able to win against him.

I agree a split would be better (if we assume Paul doesn't win), Newt and Rick are both struggling with funds and their lack of ballot access in some states doesn't help them either. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone drop after Super Tuesday and Newt does look prime right now, tho Santo is imploding so he might crash harder.

In my perception saying Paul is 'leaving Romney alone' when Pauls most run add is Three of a Kind isn't really an accurate assessment and with this funding problem piled atop the well known lack of enthusiasm Romney creates he's not currently poised to 'run away' with anything.

As far as I can tell Paul knows Newt is weak, Paul knows Santorum is imploding (in thanks to what Paul has done to point out his record) and Paul is trying to make it as sure as he can that Super Tuesday is the killing blow for one, if not both, of their campaigns. Because in a stand up contest between Paul and Romney, Paul gets to contrast himself and his record with "Mr. Weathervein" and that's a winning comparison.

Jack Hunter comments on some of this on the Official Site.

Romney can always loan himself cash. In 2007 he spent over 20 million of his own funds. He's done almost none of that this election cycle.

I mostly agree with the "Anti-Romney" strategy, but that strategy works best when it works early. To take it to extreme, what happens if we do become the lone anti-Romney candidate while the delegate count is 800-100 in favor of Romney? He'll be too far ahead for it to matter. I think the only way to be the anti-Romney is to FIRST win a contest, somewhere... and THEN force the other two idiots out of the race. Without a win, you and I are as much of THE anti-Romney as Paul is... sadly.

There is no substitute for winning, none. And it's obvious that money is getting tighter with all the camps, so why spend a dime in MI or AZ, why? Hit Washington hard and it helps win the race and fill the bank.

Last tally I saw out of FL had pro Romney efforts costing in excess of 15 million, now granted FL is the most expensive state but he's going to have to dig pretty deep out of pocket if one state (even the most expensive can cost around three quarters of what he was willing to spend total in '07

To the best of my knowledge this election is the most expensive in history and we haven't even hit Super Tuesday yet

Side note, does anyone know off hand how much he's invested into MI thus far?

Or Virginia - there are only 2 in the race there...

This report is laughable. 2008 showed that Romney has no problem spending his own money, and we will see him put money towards that if necessary. He will have no problem funding his campaign in the future.

That's true, but that really isn't the point. Money drying up is a bad sign when it comes to momentum.

If Romney can't run away with this while spending much more money than anyone else, how could he expect to do well when he is outspent by the Obamanation? We don't need a neocon as the nominee.

I agree, this is exactly why we all need to support the Official Campaign's Final Push to Super Tuesday Money Bomb and donate in the next 48 hours.

Remember, the Campaign needs lead time to place TV/Radio Buys for the last 7 days leading up to March 6th.

If you can, Donate Now!!!
