Klobuchar went sharply at Bills’ support for establishing a gold- and silver-based currency and a bill he sponsored in the Legislature to study the viability of introducing a state currency. She vigorously defended the Federal Reserve system, which Bills opposes, and said his monetary policy consists of plans that are “not mainstream ideas for the future of this country.”

I really like Kurt. I wish more did too...

He's just in the wrong state in the wrong year. I'm still a big fan, perhaps he can run for a congressional seat if he doesn't beat Klobuchar.

That's a nice optimistic view of it. I can see that.

Bills would have an excellent chance at a House seat for MN CD-2 when John Kline retires after another term or two. He lives in Kline's district.

However, let's not take our eyes off the prize. This is still a winnable race, even if it is a long shot. Klobuchar must be forced into as many debates as possible, and the Obama vote suppressed.

Unfortunately, the strongest headwind is probably going to come from the gay marriage ballot initiate, which really has people fired up against the GOP and could bring out the libs. Minnesota is a very pro-gay state with a huge GLBT community, and the party really shot themselves in the foot by putting that marriage initiative on the ballot this year.

The good news is that a strong Democratic win at the top doesn't always translate to success the rest of the way down in Minnesota. In 2008, Obama handily won MN, but Franken barely won his Senate seat from Coleman by a few hundred votes. In 2010, the Democrats won the Governor's seat by a narrow margin, but the GOP swept the state House and Senate.

Note that any and all future runs by Bills are contingent upon him doing very well here, even if it's not a win! We can't let him get slaughtered, or the GOPe will do their best to keep him from future endorsements. Not to mention having a convenient failure to point to and say, "See? This is why we can't run liberty candidates for serious offices."

A friend of mine saw his big purple tour bus on the road between St. Paul and Blaine today. Honk if you see it to show your support!

If Klobuchar wants to defend the Federal Reserve system let her. Bills can take advantage of this by running a populist campaign against the Fed which can attract the support of voters across the spectrum without really having try to tear down the popular Klobuchar.

That's why anything possible, because this is true.
