VA: Military absentee ballots going AWOL in 2012

FREDERICKSBURG — A 92 percent drop in absentee-ballot requests by military personnel in Virginia is raising concerns that the Pentagon is failing to carry out a federal voting law.

With only 1,746 military voters in Virginia requesting absentee ballots so far this year — out of 126,251 service members in the state —the Military Voter Protection Project says the system has broken down.

Yes. The system HAS broken down. The troops recognize it and refuse to participate in what they know will be a continuation of further deployments. Apathy. Ron Paul cured it. They contributed to him more than ALL other candidates combined. Then the GOP brought apathy back. The GOP cheated, lied and physically assualted those that worked to nominate the choice of the troops. It hasn't gone unoticed. It is showing.

We support our troops.

The GOP merely exports our troops.

Military personnel are apples. The military industrial complex are oranges.

What have Obama or Romney received since the primary? Why are the troops not choosing to vote?

As a member of the military and avid Ron Paul supporter I can tell you most of the military personal where I am see no difference between Obama and Romney.

"It doesn't affect me."

It affects military personnel very much. Or it would if there was one iota of difference between the warmonger and the former alleged peacenik Nobel Prize recipient...

So , the 92 % drop is from last election , or last Presidential election ??

"It doesn't affect me."

You got it...

I don't understand why everyone thinks that military=solid voters. There's no way that's true, in the near decade I was in, almost NO ONE voted, and very, very few even cared.

99% of those that join up today join just to save their asses out of some kind of financial situation(debt, kids on the way, etc.). Almost none have read the Constitution, nor do they care to.

Plus, they get the added bonus of being able to say that they "Defend our freedoms."

More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months. This is more than the combined total of the nine years before. Thirty have died in August. The commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep, although he ordered the White House flag flown at half mast for the Sikhs that were killed. There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifferent incompetence of this president. It has taken on a dangerous tone. No one knows what to do about him, but the anger runs deep as the deaths continue with no strategic end in sight to the idiocy of this war. Obama has had 4 years to end this futile insanity, during which time he has vacationed, golfed, campaigned, and generally ignored the plight of our men and women in uniform. But, there is now a movement afoot in the armed services to launch a massive get out the vote drive against this president. Not just current active duty types, but the National Guard, Reserves, the retired, and all other prior service members. This is no small special interest group, but many millions of veterans who can have an enormous impact on the outcome of the November election if they all respond. The million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state if they all show up at the polls. It might not keep another one hundred U.S. troops from dying between now and November, but a turn out to vote by the military against this heart breaking lack of leadership can make a powerful statement that hastens a change to the indifference of this shallow little man who just lets our soldiers die.

These emails are so ridiculous, especially after reading the OP. Like mittens gives a rats about the military.

Didn't somebody run for POTUS during the primary that actually cared for the troops (wants them home) and was even one himself.............
