Just when you thought political overreach coudn't get any worse.

Key takeaways:

  1. The law was "for the children" introduced by a kindergarten teacher turned state rep.
  2. The law requires ISPs to spy on you to determine if you're using a VPN.
  3. The law bans the sale of VPNs in Michigan.
  4. As written the law affects VPNs used by corporations to make sure data is secure when sending it to remote locations and that includes your private financial data.
This is insane.

"Protect the children"

I'd be fine if every child on the planet died so they could no longer use this as an excuse.

Though they might still try

I'm tired of hearing the "oh, but they mean well" excuse.

The road to Hell is paved with the intentions of people with their "heart[s] in the right place".

I doubt it's really even true in many cases, anyway. There comes a point at which "having your heart in the right place" and lazily slathering ever more (and ever more broad and all-encompassing) statutes on top of an already-existing mountain of laws become mutually exclusive.
