Kerry will have another election battle on September 5, four weeks from today.

This is a special primary to determine the Republican nominee to fill out McCotter's remaining term through January 2013.

Five Republicans are listed on the ballot, including Kerry and Nancy.

Should we be worried about this special primary?

In Kentucky's 4th CD where there will also be a special election, the GOP endorsed Massie for the special election even though they did not support him in the primary. Maybe people in Kerry's district need to pressure their GOP to do the same.

This was the Kentucky 4th CD GOP's statement:

I spoke to the importance of the special election and how we must work to support Thomas Massie through this process: “Yes, anyone can be nominated, but this is not the time for shenanigans. I need you to be leaders, not game show hosts. Furthermore, I need each of you to acknowledge that Thomas Massie is our candidate and the only Republican Candidate in this race. I will consider it a disloyal and damaging act by anyone who rises and nominates any person other than Thomas Massie.”

I don't think we have much to worry about. However, we shouldn't just sit back and wait for a win to come in either.

Not to throw cold water on anything. But for those with limited donating resources, is there any reason to care about this special election? If someone other than Bentivolio wins, then they'll be lame ducks from the get go, and gone in 2 months. He's still on the November ballot and they won't be.

I'm sure the campaign has their own ideas about strategizing the upcoming elections. But I would hope that they don't waste anything on the special election that they'll need for the general.

There are some reasons why this special election is important for Kerry:

1. If he wins the special election and becomes a Congressman before the next term begins, he does get a bit of seniority on the freshmen who will be entering in 2013.

2. If Kerry loses, it will show that he isn't that strong of a candidate since he was only able to beat a write-in candidate. Democrats may jump at this opportunity and pour in lots of money into the general election.

3. Nancy has been going around telling everyone that if her name was on the primary ballot, she would have won by a landslide. If nothing else comes out of this, it would be nice to show the establishment that we can win regardless of the situation.

4. If someone other than Kerry wins the special primary, then on the November general election, there will be two Republican nominees and that may confuse voters. If Kerry wins the special primary, it will be a lot easier to say "vote for me twice" instead of "vote for me AND whoever the other nominee is".

Kerry will easily win the special election. If we're told turnout was lite for the primary, it will be almost dead on the next one. All we need to do is phone bank the RP supporters in the area and presto. Much of the primary helpers were from people in the old district and we are finally rewarded by being able to vote for him in the special.
