After Hurricane Katrina, the Gov't sent a bunch of folks down here pushing 'smart codes'. They made an interesting case, trying to tie it in with an older lifestyle we once enjoyed. There was a lot of overreach, however, and it went nowhere except that we got some nice new storefronts and lighting in our original downtown area. The one lasting thing was stiffer building codes, to the point of being ridiculous, which was pushed by FEMA and endorsed by the insurance industry.
A little OT, but smart codes are part of Agenda 21.
