The cheapest durable material I've found for creating banners is used billboard vinyl similar to this

Now, ordering it off ebay will only make it a similar cost compared to tyvek from a local hardware shop - mostly because of shipping charges. However, if you call around to your local billboard companies they will more than likely have lots of left over stock they will be glad to sell you for a fraction of the cost.

Here in Utah I've found used billboards for 20$ each, making it around 0.03$/sq foot, about 1/4th the cost off ebay or tyvek.

We cut one up at a sign making party tonight and discovered that you don't even need grommets to hold the signs up, it's tough enough that a hole will work. Our ~2x4 revolution signs were less than 50 cents each with all materials and paint.

Very good stuff, it'll last longer than the signs useful life.

This would also enable people to create much larger signs without much money invested, if you're willing to create a large enough stencil you will be able to build the sign at a very low cost.

Brandon, the signs were about $0.60 including the cost of the hot dogs :)

Seriously though I am very glad you discovered this resource and hope other areas can find a willing supplier. The material is very strong, lightweight, and easy to work with. After learning a few tricks and getting set up we can make 50-60 signs and hour. We figure of the 2x4 size we can make around 70, and next time were going to work on some larger ones too.

Go to RonPaulRevolution.com They have a video showing that you can also use Tyvek, the stuff they wrap houses with, to make banners. I found 135foot rolls for $60 at home depot. Click on 'how to' on the webpage.

Carla, this is alot stringer then tyvek and 1/3 of the cost or less.

Oh absolutely, I agree. The only reason I mentioned Tyvek is that some groups that are smaller may need to pay a smaller total to get started even if the price per square foot is more. And I saw Tyvek rolls that are only 3feet or so wide, versus trying to handle a really large billboard roll.

I'm not criticizing either idea I think they're both great. Just wanted to give another option.
