The 2012 Wake County Republican Convention will be held on March 22 at Kerr Scott on the State Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 5:30 PM and the program will begin at 7:00, when the convention will be treated to a keynote address by Herman Cain, former Presidential candidate and one of the most exciting conservative speakers in the country.

Growing up “poor but happy” on the west side of Atlanta, Cain graduated from Morehouse College and earned a Master’s Degree from Purdue University. In addition to his famous success at rebuilding (and then purchasing) Godfather’s Pizza, Cain served in top executive positions with Pillsbury and Burger King. He also served two stints as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Turning to public affairs, he became President of the National Restaurant Association, and was credited with being a key factor in the defeat of the Clinton Health Care plan in 1993.

He served as an advisor to Bob Dole’s 1996 Presidential campaign, and ran for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2004.

As you all know, Cain was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 2012. In his campaign, he demonstrated a great ability to excite an audience with his economic proposals, including his famous “9-9-9” tax reform plan.

Now he’s going to be with us at our convention, and I can’t wait to hear him speak.

If you want to be there, here’s the drill.

  1. If you were elected as a Delegate or an Alternate at the Feb 16th Precinct meeting your Convention fee is only $25.00, so what you need to do is either sign up on-line or print out the form and mail it with your check to Wake GOP Convention, ATTN: Susan Bryant, PO Box 30608, Raleigh, NC 27622. On March 17, the price will go up to $50, so register now so you don’t forget.
  2. If you didn’t RSVP for the Precinct Meetings, or you’re not a registered Republican (shame!), or you don’t live in Wake County – but still want to come to the Convention, you can sign up as an Observer. Advance ticket price = $50.00 At the door = $75.00 (Click Here to Register).

This is going to be a great event, a super-fun evening, and a huge boost for our 2012 Republican campaign in Wake County!

The concession stands will be open, lots and lots of our great Republican officeholders and candidates will be on hand, along with representatives from our auxiliary clubs and other vendors. And, Herman Cain himself will be there. Trust me - you won’t want to miss it.

Stay tuned for information regarding a possible VIP Reception with Herman Cain before the program starts. We have something in the works and hopefully we can release the details soon.

We are also pleased to announce that the winner of the drawing for the $150 gift certificate to Rey’s Restaurant in Cary for early RSVPing to the Wake County GOP Precincts Meeting is Molly Baugh. Congratulations, Molly!

You will have to sit through Cain's balderdash, but please everyone in Wake County be there for Paul. We need as many people as possible to be delegates to the district, the state, and finally the national convention.

This really demonstrates what a powerhouse the Wake GOP has become. They can charge $25 a head for their convention and probably earn a profit on it.

Midsized counties charge $10 a ticket and hope to break even. The small rural ones simply hold the convention at a restaurant and ask people to sit at the same table.

$20 is what they charge, but yeah, true otherwise.

Isn't a rural county better though, because then you are not competing against a lot of folks? Or I may be wrong because I guess there is no competition at the county level at all?

It really doesn't matter much what conventions people come through, in even numbered years. It's one delegate, one vote, at state convention with so many open delegate spots that nobody is turned away.

The "weighted registration" voting on odd numbered years is better for the rural counties however. When a single delegate comes (usually the party chairman) that person can vote for the ENTIRE county at the state conv.

Rural counties are harder to be stealth in. Any new person at a party meeting really sticks out.

Does gunny represent part of wake?
He is in my senate district, but I think he is in Franklin county atm?? He'll have to say for sure.

I didn't see him at the Wake County precinct meetings though. His rivals had tables there.

I will be there. I was at the Wake County precinct convention and there was no visible Ron Paul presence at all. We all need to get organized on this so we know who to vote for as delegates.

Word was probably passed around to tone things down, and not stick out.

There will be plenty of people from Wake, the Republican Liberty Caucus is based there, and BJ Lawson ran two campaigns.

Gunny will have a table at the convention. Come visit if you get a chance. We did not know we could come to the precinct meetings but we were invited to the convention. We will be there.
