It has become painfully clear how Donald Trump is making America “great” again. He’s doing it through the exercise of omnipotent powers. It’s a plan that his loyal, rightwing MAGA supporters proudly support by wearing their red MAGA caps. It’s also what American conservatives celebrate as a “free” society.
One current demonstration of this phenomena is with respect to Venezuela. Citing the U.S. government’s decades-old failed and destructive “war on drugs” and “war on terrorism,” Trump and his military goons are engaged in legalized murder on the high seas near Venezuela, as well as a regime-change operation inside Venezuela. Not only are Trump and the Pentagon maneuvering a massive military force off Venezuelan shores, he has now also authorized the CIA to engage in “covert” operations inside Venezuela. That, of course, entails the distinct possibility of initiating state-sponsored assassination attempts against Venezuelan officials, including Venezuela’s ruler, Nicolás Maduro. That’s another omnipotent power — assassination — that Trump proudly wields and exercises, with the enthusiastic support of his MAGA supporters and the American conservative movement.
There is something important to note about these omnipotent powers that Trump and his national-security establishment are exercising: Nothing and no one can stop them from exercising them. Congress cannot stop them. The U.S. Supreme Court cannot stop them. The American people cannot stop them. The Venezuelan government cannot stop them. Trump and his national-security-state goons wield the omnipotent power to wreak massive violent mayhem in and near Venezuela and, in the process, kill any number of people they want, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop them.
That’s the kind of governmental system under which we modern-day Americans live, one in which the ruler and his vast, all-powerful, permanent standing military and para-military forces wield and exercise omnipotent powers, including the power to snuff out anyone’s life they want, so long as they label the victim a “narco-terrorist,” an “immigrant-invader terrorist,” an “Islamic terrorist,” or just a “terrorist.”
Meanwhile, Trump and his drug-war enforcers continue prosecuting and incarcerating people here at home for daring to ingest harmful substances without the official permission of federal officials. One can only wonder how long before they simply kill suspected drug-law violators here at home, as they are doing in the Caribbean.
We have learned that it is the same with taxes. We Americans live in a country where the ruler wields the omnipotent authority to raise taxes on the American people to any extent he desires. That’s what Trump’s tariffs are all about. 2 percent tariffs today. 10 percent tomorrow. 100 percent the next day. It’s all up to our ruler.
Trump and his loyal and obedient Justice Department continue to prosecute, incarcerate, and fine any American citizen who dares to violate their sacred sanctions and embargoes that U.S. officials impose on foreign nations, including nations whose citizenry are targeted with privation and death by starvation with the aim of achieving regime change.
Trump has also become a master at using America’s welfare state to impose his will on colleges and universities across the land. Do what he wants or else lose their dole. Not surprisingly, deeply fearful of losing the welfare dole on which they have become dependent, colleges and universities all across the land have bent the knee and dutifully complied with Trump’s orders.
Masked paramilitary goons are kidnapping people in public places, carting them away in unmarked cars, incarcerating them in horrific facilities, disappearing them, depriving them of due process of law, and deporting them to harsh foreign dictatorial regimes for torture and indefinite detention. Moreover, immigration gendarmes are conducting violent no-knock paramilitary raids on private establishments in American cities far from the borderlands. It’s all part of the decades-old, failed, and destructive U.S. immigration police state that has now expanded beyond the borderlands and gone nationwide.
Oh, and let’s not forget Trump’s and the Pentagon’s military invasions and occupations of American cities and towns as part of their effort to establish rightwing “law and order” across America. What better way to make America “great” again, “free” again, and “safe” again than a harsh militarized society, especially one governed by martial law?
