Maine GOP Meeting Address Delegate Controversy

The Maine Republican party is trying move forward from the delegate controversy at the Republican National Convention.

The Maine GOP met Saturday in Waterville, at the request of an unseated alternate Ron Paul delegate Jonathan Pfafe.

Pfafe introduced five resolutions at the closed-door meeting, and says the gist of the resolutions was to officially say they disagree with the RNCunseating the Paul delegates and the actions of former Maine Republican National Committeewoman Jan Staples. Staples and Maine republican Peter Cianchette filed the original complaint against the Paul delegates to the RNC, claiming the delegates were elected illegally at the Maine GOP convention in May.

The RNC ultimately unseated 10 Paul delegates and replaced them with Mitt Romney supporters at the RNC in Tampa, Fla. last week.

The Paul delegates walked out of the RNC on Tuesday when the entire Paul delegation wasn't seated.

Maine GOP Chairman Charlie Webster presided over Saturday's meeting, and said the party typically doesn't pass resolutions, and he felt the resolutions didn't hold much merit since they don't set policy.

However, members who voted for the resolution, mostly Paul supporters, told News 13 that this was their way to state formally their disappointment with the RNC and Staples.

Four of the five resolutions passed with a majority vote. The fifth, a call for Staples to step down from her position as Maine national commiteewoman was ruled moot since Staples was replaced by 21-year-old Ashley Ryan at the RNC last week.

Well, it seems that that was much ado about nothing. If Webster was up for a vote today he would've lost. So, it's a nice barometer of sentiment at the state committee.

Unfortunately I am sure he will, due to his taking for the team, get something new from RNC just as your ousted committeewoman did.

But at least he'll be out of Maine's chair.
