Libertarian National Committee Passes Pro Ron Paul Resolution

This is the first step. They need to apply the pressure to him. He'll be much more receptive if they ask him to run. The LP needs to work very hard to get on the ballot in all 50 states. That way, they give Ron the vehicle to be able to compete everywhere. He'll be able to raise money himself, probably major party-type money, and be able to compete from there.

this might scare most neo-cons into voting for Ron Paul to prevent him being a spoiler

plus this will probably gt some MSM coverage

this could work to our favor for the nod

Any help can be good help, if it's applied properly.

I rather see RP run as the R candidate. But in my fantasy world, it would be great if the Libertarians were a stronger party, RP as their candidate would build that party.

Of course, the total fantasy is RP & Libertarians build the middle path/party. The Dems get more liberal via Obama and the Republicans get more religious via Huck. I believe there really are so many more "independents," dems and reps who should naturally fit together as libertarians than social conservatives or big gov't democrats.

I sure wish the LP had waited until AFTER the primaries to see how things shake out to do this crap. Ron has said over and over, he is running as a R.

If he does not get the nomination, then this is a great idea, but to pull your pants down so early in the game is silly....

With or without the R party, Ron can win the WH. But let's take things one day at a time.

Libertarian party, get your hands off my ron. Libertarians themselves are welcome to jump on board though.

I could really see both the Libertarian and Constitution parties endorsing Paul even if he's the Republican nominee. What other candidate could realistically hope for that? Paul is the best candidate to prevent a third party from hurting the GOP's chances.

I think the Constitution Party already has, or at least many of its leaders have. We can also expect a lot of support from Greens, if not their nomination. I think Ron Paul has become the universal anti-Establishment candidate. (Obama would be the fake one.)

If Ron gets the GOP nomination, then also gets the Green, Constitution pary and the LP nomination. I'd say he'd be doing pretty well. :D

I'm sick and tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. I'm voting Ron Paul for president whether he's on the ballot or not.

Because the repubs are so pro-war, Ron might be forced, even with the support he has, to run 3rd party....he'll get my vote no matter what party, and he better run 3rd party if he doesn't get the repub nomination....we can't stop now after all of this.

Also, he will be 75 years old next election, so this year is probably his only chance to be the president...he of course should not mention 3rd p[arty until all is lost with the republican nomination.

I don't think he can stop this train, even if he wants to. You don't go back after raising 7+ million dollars in a day (as he's about to do).

I think right now, he's being so careful answering that question
("I have no plans to..." doesn't mean "I won't...")
because he wants the focus on actually trying to win the (R) nomination.

That said...I think we would have a serious chance at a real (L) candidacy for once, with him at the helm. And as has been mentioned, the Constitution Party would soon follow. The only question is if the Greens would officially back us.

The LP should have waited to see how the January and February primaries go first. Even if the polls are accurate (which I seriously doubt), and Ron Paul is only at 5% nationally, that's enough support to win the Republican nomination.

Voter turnout in the primaries is very low, the field is crowded, and there's no clear front-runner. If all Ron Paul supporters would just register Republican, and vote in the primaries, Ron Paul will win.

It's hard to say how this will play out. I agree with the poster who said it might make some undecided neocons vote for RP because of a fear that he would be a 3rd party spoiler. What's done is done, let's make the best of it, and keep encouraging people to vote for Ron Paul.

It's a double edged sword. On the one hand, local LP chapters that had been sitting on their hands instead of helping (like West Virginia for example) now have no excuse to. On the other hand, it simply fuels all the non-major party bid talk and that RP does not need. They could have just endorsed his bid instead opening up this can of worms.

This could dash my hopes for a three-way between Mike Gravel, Ron Paul, and George Phillies.
