Texas State Rep. Briscoe Cain’s inflammatory Thursday night tweet at Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke lit a social media firestorm.

Responding to O’Rourke’s oft-repeated “Hell yes, we're gonna take your AR-15” line, a phrase many would consider a threat in and of itself, Cain tweeted his own version of ‘come and take it’ right back at the former Texas congressman: “My AR is ready for you.” While gun grabbers were apoplectic about a perceived “threat” and Twitter obediently deleted the tweet for what it called a violation of its “rules for threats of violence,” Second Amendment supporters came to Briscoe’s defense, calling the phrase well within the bounds of First Amendment protected speech.

Inflammatory rhetoric on both sides notwithstanding, the incident does speak to the dire apocalyptic imaginings of both sides of the gun control issue. On the one hand, you’ve got leftists fantasizing about the prospect of unleashing hordes of gun-wielding jackboots into the homes of millions of ordinary, law-abiding Americans to search for and confiscate any weaponry that has since been deemed illegal. And if the occasional person who feels his rights have been unjustly violated and force is warranted fires back in the process and is killed, good riddance. They were just ‘Deplorables’ anyway. On the other hand, many people on the right believe that such a show of force from a gun-grabbing government would result in enough literal blowback from gun-wielding citizens that tyranny would be stopped cold in its tracks. Either that, or they are prying the guns from our “cold, dead hands.”

Both scenarios, of course, depend on a Democrat being elected president, Democrats taking over the Senate, and draconian gun ban laws being passed. All of which could happen, easily. What isn’t as likely to happen, however, minus some sort of Netflix-series-worthy cataclysmic event, is a scenario that involves gun-wielding government agents forcibly canvassing American homes in search of illegal weapons.

Even O’Rourke himself admitted as much, telling MSNBC host Joy Reid on Saturday that he has “confidence” in “the people of this country” to follow the law.

“Much like we don’t go door-to-door to enforce almost any law in the United States – in fact, I don’t think we do that for any law in the United States – this is not something that we would do,” O’Rourke said, responding at least in part to Briscoe’s assumed chain of events. “Others have said, you know, this is something we would fear if there were a mandatory buyback program. No, we expect people to follow the law. That’s certainly what I believe will happen.”

Many readers here won’t agree with what I’m about to write, but in this rare case I believe that Beto is most likely telling the truth. The imagined apocalyptic door-to-door weapons seizures that either lead to a totalitarian state or a hot revolution/civil war is unlikely to ever happen. That’s not, however, because leftists are good people and would never want gun owners to be harmed. Quite the contrary on all counts - Leftists are NOT good people and they DO want responsible gun owners to come to harm. They just know that, Eric Swalwell’s nukes notwithstanding, such an overreach too soon has a significant chance of going bad for them, and they’re more than willing to settle for the long game.

Make no mistake, the totalitarian state WILL happen, if Robert Frances and his ilk get their way, but it won’t happen with jackboots kicking in doors, at least not at first and not in significant enough numbers to overly alarm the rest of a sleeping populace. No, it will happen with the so-called “rule of law,” as law after law is passed to “stop” a media manufactured problem (statistics-wise) that can never entirely be stopped, yet will be emphasized nonstop every time it happens anywhere in America until they get what they want.

And even assuming you “defy” a law they’ve passed – which, granted, many currently do in heavy gun-controlled blue states – what long-term purpose will that serve? They may not physically have possession of your AR-15, or your handgun, or your scoped 30-06 semi-auto deer rifle, but what good are weapons when you’ll be prosecuted as a criminal for using them? People like Beto O’Rourke and their leftist cohorts may be evil, but they aren’t stupid. They know this, and so they can say they won’t go “door-to-door” with a straight face and a smarmy “I’m a reasonable person” grin, knowing full well the long-term ramifications.

Like the frog in boiling water, the totalitarian state will happen when leftists are able to use the law to make de-facto criminals out of everyone they hate. Then, whether the proverbial jackboots come to your home and beat down your door now or later, whether they arrest you in a grocery store parking lot or sleeping in your bed, whether they prosecute you for using an “illegal” weapon to defend yourself against a home invader or hunting for food, whether they take your guns via “voluntary” buyback because you’ve got a family and can’t afford to risk going to prison, or from your cold, dead hands, they’ll know they’ve won. Because they’re eventually going to get your guns, one way or another.

In other words, when it comes to gun legislation or really anything else, don’t ever cede one lousy inch to evil, godless leftists.

AMEN!

There will be organized resistance only if someone organizes it, the founders stopped the Redcoat gun grabbers only because their colonial governments and militias were controlled by patriots.

Politics IS the answer no matter what the anarchists think and you have to work with less than perfect people, if you don't control politics at one or more levels of government your chances are minuscule.

The "Gun sanctuary" movement is the best hope we have and why I think there would be civil war.

Why not give a little backround info and link for your Gun Sanctuary mention.

I've been saying for months on this site and elsewhere, that we need to be organized, the tough guys
that rant all over the online communities claim , ''my dead hands'' the tough guys, yea, right......

How about blsht folks, we've already seen Katrina confiscation, door to door, they folded like little school girls.

The gobt won't go door to door announcing to everyone that they are going to collect guns next
week or tomorrow, they'll show up to one door at a time with overwhelming fire power and swat
garb, intimidate the fk out of one gun owner at a time, and take the guns.

We need organization, legislators are not going to protect us , communities need to protect each
other, whether it's an online community or a 'Neighborhood Gun Rights Watch'' Group.

How many liberals have complained about ak47's and the like, held by the military and
law enforcement? None.

How many liberals have ever mentioned that governments are millions of times more prone
to killing innocents than any crazed shooter, or group of crazed shooters, governments
kill with impunity, and nary a whimper from the socialists that support them.

Liberals claim to be such champions of women's rights, yet they'd prefer a woman
raped and killed over allowing her to protect herself and children from assailants.

It'll come on it's own. There will be another Bunkerville in which the government, because of incessant banshee caterwauling, won't back down. And in the aftermath it will start.

I see evidence that people are just being worn down about the gun thing. I think as many people as possible need to own guns. I don't own a gun I am just a little too accident prone to own one so, it is not because I am a woman that I don't own a gun. Even so, I would not say I am completely defenseless without a gun. I got sumin' for ya in hand to hand combat. One guy took me to court when they tried to attack me and admitted in court that they would not have attacked me if they had known I could make them regret the day they ever put their hands on me. The judge laughed his ass off. I have had a couple of guns pulled on me too and stalkers too. I have also always have a big dogs that follow me every where I go. I feel as safe as anyone can I suppose. I have been thinking about making friends with the bears roaming around on my property too. But, I am not going to push it. I would rather have an elephant. Anyway....

I am for the 2nd amendment. I grew up around men and women who all owned guns. I think all the men I was around were all veterans. They never did anything stupid around the kids and they didn't pull them out when arguing over stupid stuff. My mother was a great shot and had owned guns all her life.
I think communities ought to be able to ban together and buy tanks if they so desire to help defend the community against invaders and attacks and the only registration of guns should be about being able to call on community members to come to the defense of the community. I think it would be okay to have to go to gun safety workshops and for children to be taught about gun safety and that every gun selling outlet ought to offer a workshop on safety, cleaning, and even how to shoot the weapon when purchasing a weapon.
When no country has soldiers that will invade other countries and take their stuff and kill everyone they can, police are unarmed and, all evil is forever banned then and only then should people willing give up their weapons and beat them into plows.

There seems to be a lot of push for civil war. Damn I hate to think our countrymen and woman may turn on each other. Since I don't shoot I will offer up my first aid abilities and field dressing technique to help whatever cause I decide to be part of if I don't get taken out.

Wow. You're really "out there." Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Ya , he is probably right . The govt would just send out notices about all the weapons they know people own to turn them in . Jail them later if they are there for anything else after they do not turn them in .

The Associated Press noted that Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb welcomed O’Rourke’s push, simply for the damage that it does to the gun control movement. Gottlieb said, “This is what their goal is. We’ve always said it, now they’re saying it. Now they’ve said it and we’re going to make them eat it.”

Just dropped another donation at https://gunowners.org/support/

Don’t fool yourselves. The SWAT raids will occur. They occur already, and they will become more and more frequent.

“Door-to-door”. That is weasel wording. That would be a final stage activity. It will start out targeted. First the undesirables that have made themselves known, like Mr. Briscoe, or others who have made a “threat”. A 4 am SWAT raid with his wife and daughters marched out into the street half-naked. Dogs shot dead. Bankrupted and lives ruined.

Next would be those identified by AI monitoring of social media. Risk scores for everyone.

Second to last step will be going to the homes of all of those who have undergone a “background” check for gun or ammo purchases.

The grand finale will be door to door searches in select areas.

Both sides heavily exaggerate. Anti- gun people over-emphasize mass shootings which are actually pretty rare. Pro-gun people jump to "they are going to take away all of our guns!" There will be hand wringing on both sides and maybe some small marginal rule changes to show they are "doing something" on one side and "we stopped the confiscation!" on the other side and things will pretty much stay the same.

WE ALL KNOW WHATS NEXT...see you in the gulag, hopefully...

I have been thinking about making friends with the bears roaming around on my property too.

I made that mistake. I made a bear not afraid of me, by acting like I treat other wild animals, so as not to stress them: Announcing myself as I go around it.
That only made it curious, and it started stalking me. In the end I had to throw rocks at it and yell at it to go away.

I always feel bad when I have to scare bears off, but now I feel worse for making a bear curious about me, only to throw large rocks at it.
But they aren't going to become your friend. They'll become a pest that makes the rules, and those rules would include killing pets, and you, if they got hungry enough. And I don't think you have the budget to tame a bear with meat. XD It is always best to try to make them afraid, maybe even terrified.

I was asking you to elaborate on what you called the 'Gun Sanctuary' movement, you didn't , but
I'm getting the idea, there is no 'Gun Sanctuary' organization, just a few municipalities standing up for
what the States and feds should be doing instead of attempting to dismantle the Constitution.

If there was a 'GSM' organization, it would probably be co opted and turned against us anyway :frog:
It's amazing that there are a few willing to stand up, we need to grow this a million fold.

I think the John Birch Society and the 10th Amendment center might be pushing it along with organizers like GOA etc.

This is pretty much EXACTLY how things would go. Red flag laws allow for the same progression with the added advantage for the gun grabbers of appearing more reasonable than outright demands for confiscation.

Yea I usually throw fire crackers at them. My next door neighbors will shoot them. My dog goes after them too* but, I try real hard to discourage him from doing that. I can usually smell them when they come up. I keep my garbage, compost and garden wired off behind barbed wire too. I think I could train a cub who lost their mother though.

* My dog is akita/doberman I found out that Akita are used for hunting bears. He is not afraid of anything...
